Sadly, though, it's true.
That doesn't mean that everyone who disagrees with someone's vent falls into that category, of course.
But there are a small number of people here who only ever seem to post when they can join a gang of others having a go at someone who has had a problem.
I'm not a member of any gang - virtual or real.
I post as I see it.
And on this thread, mostly I see people blaming others for their mistakes - and refusing to listen to anyone telling them they are wrong, despite the countless times that the relevant Amazon Prime page has been posted that proves they are wrong.
I notice you haven't commented on the rest of my post.
Yeah, very few warnings posted, very few mistakes admitted.0 -

When I said 'not everyone', I intended that you understood that I wasn't referring to you as a member of the 'gang'. I'm referring to people who rarely post except to get self righteous at those who have made mistakes. Often in particularly hurtful and unpleasant ways. And on this thread, mostly I see people blaming others for their mistakes - and refusing to listen to anyone telling them they are wrong, despite the countless times that the relevant Amazon Prime page has been posted that proves they are wrong.
I think we are agreed that people are making mistakes with this page. They are not reading everything that is there.
However, this is happening time and time again and so Amazon must take some responsibility for not being sufficiently clear.
If you are busy and hurrying through an order it is not entirely unreasonable to assume that if you are offered something 'free' that it will not cost you anything.
If you are offered something 'free' then it is not unreasonable to expect that the default position is that it will not cost you anything.
To be plain, Amazon can be said to be 'conning' people because 'conning' means using a confidence trick and Amazon are relying on people's confidence in them to expect that if something is offered 'free' it means 'it is free', and not 'it is free if you remember to take some action at some point in the future'.
If Amazon were entirely blameless in this matter they would reorganise things so that at the end of the trial you were invited to sign up if you wished to continue.
Yes, people are at fault for not reading what they should read but Amazon know perfectly well this is happening and yet continue to behave in a way that they know catches people out.
I would say, however, that I don't think Amazon arrange things in this manner with the intention of catching out people who do not read the entire screen. Rather they are hoping that people who accept the trial will not remember to cancel and thus succumb to a fairly standard piece of inertia selling.I notice you haven't commented on the rest of my post.
Probably because I agreed with it.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Yet again I google for something I need help with and MSE comes to my rescue! Nearly had a coronary when realised £49 had come out of my bank and how id made the mistake of forgetting to cancel. I clicked cancel (even tho the cash has already come out) and within 2 minutes I received an auto email to say as I've not used it, i will be refunded in 2-3 days.
Phewwww!!
Ps. I know i'm an lurker but thought this may calm some panic in this thread.xx0 -

That's good news, carsonsmummy. :T
Well done to you for having the sense to cancel properly and then tell us about it instead of jumping up & down and screaming that you'd been conned, scammed, ripped-off etc etc.0 -
I used prime, forgot to cancel, but thought at least it is a premium service. BUT 2 orders in three months werent delivered when promised, so not good value. cant really see what I have paid for.0

yeah, but when it fails, you complain.
I paid £49 in December 2011, it should have run out in December 2012. Its due to expire in July 2013. I order alot admittedly, but the 7 failures have got me 7 free months.
Given I usually order for a saturday delivery I get great value for my £49.0 -
Just looked at my online bank account and noticed a payment to Amazon Prime for £49
I didn't have a clue what this was so I phoned amazon (0800 4962454) and apparently I've had prime since 2012.
The guy on the phone said I ticked a box for free delivery when i bought a printer last year and this signed me up to prime!
I vaguely remember getting free delivery or next day delivery, but wouldn't have bothered if it was gonna charge me 49 quid annually.
Anyway the guy noticed I'd not used any of the benefits from Prime so is refunding me last years subscription as well. Bonus!
£98 back in my account within 2 working days, confirmed by email.0 -

Good news for you.
Might be a good idea to start checking your bank statements on a more regular basis though......0
