I too was duped by Amazon The first I knew of it was when I saw £49 had been charged to my credit card I thought I was savvy when buying online and I definately did not sign up for the prime membership I phoned them and they said I would recieve a refund within 2 working days I have since cancelled my credit card with them. Any company who resorts to these underhand business tactics will not be getting my custom in future.I just cant trust them with my credit card details :mad:0

perhaps you'd like to read custardy's post #212 (on the previous page).
It includes a screenshot of what you would have seen when placing your order with Amazon.
Perhaps then you could review your assertion that you were "duped" and didn't sign up for AmazonPrime.
And I'd certainly reconsider whether you can really sayI thought I was savvy when buying online0 -
I had forgotton I had used the trial period on Amazon prime! I never cancelled it and had no reminder off Amazon! It wasn't till I was checking my bank details when I noticed £49 had been taken out by Amazon. I rang Amazon and they cancelled it straight away and refunded me my money with no hassle. I didn't even need to ask. A confirmation e-mail was sent straight away.
Very pleased with the service, but crafty of them not to let you know it was up for renewel!
Exactly this happened to me! I almost had a heart attack when i saw my bank balance with a £49 deduction, but as soon as i called they said so long as i hadn't ordered anything in the first (i think seven days), then i could cancel and get my full refund *whew*!!!
i've been very wary of free trials since and always remember to set reminders (on an unrelated matter i signed up for the 30day love film trial, lets just say i was lucky enough that my final dvd arrived the morning i was to be charged so luckily it didn't happen...i'm so done with free trials!)0 -
Hi
I disagree that Amazon are underhand. I signed up for the Amazon prime month's trial and cancelled after my last order, when it was due to expire.

I think the majority of those people who shout "underhand business tactics' (as well as 'con', 'rip-off' and 'scam') are those people who THINK they're 'internet savvy' but in reality can't be bothered or are incapable of reading what's on the screen in front of them - and then whinge about it afterwards.0 -
Very useful indeed. In our time of need, this thread gave me a full explanation of Amazon prime in about 5 seconds flat!
Having spent a couple of minutes today looking at the web (and the multitude of 'Amazon prime - oh my God I've been scammed' type postings on MSE alone...) I'm not surprised the regulars on here are fed up of explaining it.
And to think...3 or 4 days ago, I never even knew Amazon prime existed. I now feel like an expert on the subject
So in a nutshell - you are an attention seeker and your wife is a muppet who signs up to things she hasn't read properly. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
You obviously make a great combination!0 -
I signed up to Amazon Prime last year after realising how much stuff I order from them and was likely to just over the Christmas period. In my case £49.97 was a bargain for the service offered. I've had purchases such as one £3.00 childrens book sent by next day delivery.
I cannot see how people can sign up for it and not realise what they are doing, unless they are skim reading and not bothering, more fool you.The man without a signature.0 -
Hi to everyone,
I had the same with Amazon Prime. I just figured out today that I have been charged £49 without using any service and without requesting it. Thanks to all because i got information from here re this. I call them and cancel it and they said that they will refund my account. Should be very careful in the future with this!0
