They could send an email to the person concerned perhaps a week before the money is debited, asking them to confirm they're happy for the money to be taken. That would be a good start. If people ignored the email then they really could only blame themselves....though I s'pose they could always be away on hols!:o

TBH I've never gone for the super duper postal service myself, so haven't even seen the trail wording...I always go for the cheapest option, which is usually free if you order over a certain amount :p:D. Therefore, I cannot suggest any improvements for the wording per se.........but surely, the very fact that people are getting it wrong suggests that there could be improvements? No ego here, just a simple question?

Meant to say...one thing I thought was particularly helpful was Amazon putting their freephone(:D:D) number next to the transaction on our bank statement. A stroke of genius which made it easier to find (and resolve) what had happened.

Thanks for that, custardy. Must confess, looking at the screenshots it couldn't be much clearer - and it sounds like a really good deal for someone that uses Amazon a lot.

But like I said earlier, being the tightwad that I am, I always use super saver anyway!!:):)

I'm going to try and avoid going over old ground here, it's a waste of my time and yours. All I'm saying is that the wee slogan above ("Be nice to all MoneySavers") is quite often not happening. This is a really useful site and in fairness to you (looking back at some of your previous posts) some of the advice you've given is excellent (IMHO). It's just that you and many of the regulars could achieve the same result without resorting to the unnecessary stuff...which ironcially is exactly what you say of me (above) :o

So many threads might not turn as heated as they do, Max7, if newbies who come on here read the Forum Etiquette and the slogan you refer to:
    "Be nice to all MoneySavers".

Quite often, Max7, you'll find that it's the person who's yelling that he/she has been scammed, ripped-off, conned, swindled, tricked or duped who resorts to insults when people point out that, in fact, they haven't been any of the above.
They have, in fact, been careless.

I think it's human nature for most people, when they've taken the time to offer advice, help or pointed out (often quite politely) to someone that they are wrong in their belief that they've been scammed etc and are then subjected to sarcasm or insults, to dish out the same in response.

My dear lady unwittingly signed up for this. I saw the £49 entry on our bank statement and asked her if she knew what it was. She didn't have a clue! Long story short, she'd signed up to the free trail without reading the whole t&c's....needless to say, Amazon were very good about the refund and the missus is gonna be more careful what she's ticks next time!

    Hmmm.
So having seen the screenshot that your dear lady saw, how 'unwitting' was she?

Still, it's good to hear she's going to be more careful in future.;)

You're right of course, the slogan does work both ways....perhaps that's what I've failed to appreciate here! And yes, it is indeed human nature for people to dish out insults in return for insults (isn't that Bataris Box?).

I'm really leased to have found this thread. I signed up for the free trial just before Christmas. I was then really ill in January and forgot to cancel. I put it down to bad luck and cursed at myself - didn't bother reading the settings! -but now I've cancelled and they're refunding my money:beer:

Very useful indeed. In our time of need, this thread gave me a full explanation of Amazon prime in about 5 seconds flat!

Having spent a couple of minutes today looking at the web (and the multitude of 'Amazon prime - oh my God I've been scammed' type postings on MSE alone...) I'm not surprised the regulars on here are fed up of explaining it.

And to think...3 or 4 days ago, I never even knew Amazon prime existed. I now feel like an expert on the subject :D
  • hello everybody

amazon was amazing solving this issue.
u know after i did that stupid thing everybody does!
i entered my account on Amazon, and they ask me if i wanted to cancel my prime account as i didn't use it since i registered.
i did that and they will refund me in full in 2-3 working days.
    u don't need to call.
    Amazon ... bravo :T :T :T

  • I had forgotton I had used the trial period on Amazon prime! I never cancelled it and had no reminder off Amazon! It wasn't till I was checking my bank details when I noticed £49 had been taken out by Amazon. I rang Amazon and they cancelled it straight away and refunded me my money with no hassle. I didn't even need to ask. A confirmation e-mail was sent straight away.
Very pleased with the service, but crafty of them not to let you know it was up for renewel!
