I read a figure somewhere (a couple of years back) that said we apparently dump something like 20-25% of all the food we manufacture in this country ... what a waste

If they want to enforce the "multibuys don't count on reduced items" policy, and still get rid of their short dated produce, the only answer is for the price reductions to take the price below the multibuy cost, whether the purchaser buys one or two.
If those pies had been reduced from £2.99 to £1.49 (i.e. half price) the purchaser would not have the dilemma of buying one or two, if one was all he/she really wanted. It should be made clear at the reduced counter that the price you see is the price you pay for sticker-reduced items.
I quite agree that it is a bit of a con to sell use-by-today goods for 1p less than long dated stock, and Tesco shouldn't be surprised if they get left with stuff only fit for the bin, if they pursue this policy.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

haveagoade wrote:Well the facts are whatever the wording, before Tesco gave the saving from a multibuy, despite a sell by reduction.
Yeah, years ago, you could still save at the till on the products which had "buy 2 for 5 pounds" written on them, then they followed Somerfields lead and used barcoded reduced price stickers which means the computer knows it is a reduced item. So we lost out on what was A BONUS THAT WE WERE NOT ENTITLED TO LEGALLY.What you are saying is now they have played with the wording in order NOT to give a multibuy saving on reduced price items.
"buy one get one free" = gives you the cost of the reduced price item back e.g. 20p whatever.
"buy 2 for 5 pounds" = No money back unless the cost is above 5 pounds
"buy 2 get 1 pound off" = 1 pound returned at the till (even for reducies)A case of WEASEL words. Why would you want to defend Tesco in this? They have already admitted to me they have changed their policy since last year.So Why can't they Tell their customers......and not use weasel words on the package descriptions.0 -
Thanks for this balanced view point Wig...There is no need to run outside

indeed, i bet you're the kind of person who buys these "two for £x.xx" deals to get stuff for free.
like when the pies are reduced to 49p, bet you'd still buy two to get the 98p off....
tighter than a ducks backside
Let us know when the next two for 49p, with 98p off bargain at Tesco is - errrrr why dont they just give the stuff away?? Either you sell them or they go in the skip.
And 10p rolls scanning for 11p breaks the law I'm afraid. Get the prices right and no one will have to stay back after school.
Gosh, you know some of these Tesco staff get a little uptight about consumers.0 -
RAMBLER wrote:Totally agree, but you still see people getting visibly excited and hovering around the reduced sections. It's particularly funny in the evening when its like sardines in a tin around the poor assistant as they take off that extra 10p
I once had a big laugh, when the shop assistant loaded up his trolley with bags of 10p potatoes - which disappeared into the back of the shop....0 -

I don't work for tescos, just noting that some moneysavers take it that little bit TOO far....

Don't you think Martin takes it a little too far sometimes, I mean all that tinkering around with phone lines to save a few measly pence off a call.
I think we should start a moneySPENDING campaign.
Poor old Tesco's and BT! Who's going to look after them when they are old?0 -
Methinks someone works for TESCO here!.........0

*Certainly there are people *here* who do work fo Tescos, so you are 'technically' correct, but somehow I don't think that was what you were meaning to say.0
