Tesco reduced price sell by's

Options
I have this longstanding arguement with tesco over their reduced price sell by items. The problem is you never know for sure if the multibuy savings are going to apply to items reduced in the sell by reduction counter.

my examples have been

Steak and ale pies......£2.99 each or 2 for £5

There were loads on the sell by reduction counter reduced to £2.49 each, so saving 50p on one pie.

Ok you buy 2 for £4.98 thinking you are gonna get the multibuy saving added as well (98p)at he bottom of the reciept? guess what you don't!!!

You end up saving 2p on two poor sell by date pies that you could of bought for £5...............!!!!!!!!!!

I am in process of a pressurising Tesco to place a clear sign on the section displaying sell by reduction items that States

"Multibuy savings DO NOT apply to reduced price items"

But can I get them to agree......NO

The offer they had on was 2 for £5, you got 2 for £4.98.

At the end of the daym you still saved money, so if they had applied the 2 for £5, it would have cost you money.

Why would you want them to apply a 2 for£5 offer that would cost you ?, I could have understood if it was a buy 2 get £1 off sort of deal, but it wasn't.

The offer wasn't get a get 48p off each when you but 2 , it was a 2 for £5 offer,a subtle differnce, but still a difference .

and i bet its folk like you who go into shops at the last possible minute to get the reductions then keep all the staff back whilst checking your receipt/complaining that your 10p rolls scanned at 11p....

indeed, i bet you're the kind of person who buys these "two for £x.xx" deals to get stuff for free.

like when the pies are reduced to 49p, bet you'd still buy two to get the 98p off....

If the barcode has a printed reduced barcode, this extra 2 for £5 discount wont apply. The buy 2, save £1 still does as it's a different sort of promotion. You will only get the 98p off on buy 2 for £5 if the reduced label has been handwritten.

Have to agree with CIS on this, I don't like it, but Tesco are in the business of making money, and this is an area where they are not misleading anyone IMO. You have a choice to buy 2 pies at £4.98 close to their sell by date, or 2 pies for £5 not close to sell by date. up to you which you go for.

BTW, it isn't just Tesco that do this...I got some pizzas refunded at Asda last year as each pizza was something like £1.40 each, reduced to £1.10 and also buy 3 for £3. So I paid £3.30 for 3 pizzas close to date instead of £3 for 3 pizzas far from date. Got a refund and 3 fresher pizzas.

Just to let you know that all Tesco stores should be using the yellow reduced barcode stickers as only Team Leaders and managers have the ability to reduce prices manually

sorry for being picky but don't you mean 'have the authority'?
I am sure that all Tesco staff are able to write out a reduced price sticky label!

This subject has been kicked around in the past.

Tesco, Morrisons and ASDA don't give the reductions on these items, so you can often lose out by buying reduced items. It's stupid, but it's true.

Sainbury's, Co-op, Somerfield generally do give the reductions, so you can benefit twice on the same item.

(Subject to the fact that BOGOF items will often be BOGOF at the reduced price, not "buy 2 £5 BOGOF items which are reduced to £3 each for only £1 (2 x £3 - £5)" which used to be the case).

My comments are not necessarily true countrywide - it depends on the version of the till software used in each store.
