Maybe the simple solution is that Tescos should just dump anything when it comes close to the date that way they do not have to worry about reducing it. I think common sense would say that if something has been reduced then the orginal pricing structure no longer applies (unless stated otherwise).

    Ivan

    BUT.....................

Tesco used to give the multibuy saving to ALL reduced sell by items until last year. This was easy to understand, caused no problems, cos you knew where you were.

So if they NOW change their policy .......TELL THE CUSTOMERS!

Not asking TOO MUCH am I?

They do now give rductions but who knows what you gonna get till you get to the till, AND don't bother asking the staff cos they don't know for certain either!

I don't care what policy TESCO have over this, JUST make it CLEAR!

    And another thing

What happens when you buy two identical items in the "Buy 2 for £5" (normally £2.99 each) and one is reduced for sell by reasons to £2.25 and one is not?

Put them together and because the multibuy does not apply what do you pay?

    Is it £5.24

Or is it Still £5, and if its £5 why bother, you then have a poor sell by product when you could have had 2 good sell by products for 24p cheaper or even the same price!

Why do Tesco make it so difficult?

:rotfl: :rotfl: I find it quite straight forward ... we complain if stuff is reduced and complain if it isn't ... come on, this is such a minor issue. most people will understand that if they pick up something with a reduced sticker on it then that is the price they pay

Hmmm. Interesting. I've twice recently bought stuff from Tesco's that was on offer and the reduced price sticker was the price paid, but it was a reduced price set in relation to the offer price. IE BOGOF for 2.99 reduced to £1 (and I bought all three on the shelf).

    My tips are
    1. Don't buy reduced price chicken - no matter what price.
    2. Reduced price fresh cream cakes are a sign from god to stop dieting for a day. :rotfl:

    Thanks for that .......

Perhaps you wanna go over to the TESCO Missprice section and tell all the people Hunting for R&R's that THEY are all "Tight Fisted old GITS"

...........see how long you last there!

This matter is of legitimate concern

and Ivan why don't you address my concerns regarding the combination of a reduced multibuy and a non reduced multibuy?.......what price do you "UNDERSTAND" that you pay then?

I have, and have said it is such a trivial matter that it is irrelevant. If there is one of thoes yellow (or other) reduced price sticker on the goods then that is the price I would expect to pay ... it supercedes all other prices and offers .. is that so difficult to understand? You are the only one I have ever heard trying to find some angle to make it more complex than it is

ok you buy a sell by reduced item from £2.99 to £2.59 together with another one not reduced , ie at full price. They are also promoted as multibuy 2 for £5.

I'm glad that you will happily pay £5.48 for these! Instead of £5

I bet Tesco wish all customers were like you! If you regard this as trivial, then you do a dis-service to the ethos of this BOARD!

Ooooohh I'm only 1/3rd of the way through the thread and I have so much to say already! Where to start

Ok MarkyMArkD, surprised you included Somerfield into those that do because I was going to say that Somerfield does what the OP wants Tesco to do, they clearly say (can't remember where) that price promotions do not apply to reduced price items.

OP, They (tesco) can't put up a sign saying MULTIBUY DISCOUNTS DO NOT APPLY TO REDUCED ITEMS because at the moment that would be untrue, if an item is buy 2 get 1 pound off you will get the 1 pound off at the till if you don't you can complain and if necessary take them to court. And if they did what you want then I would not be entirely happy because I always look out for the Buy2 get 1pound off reduced price items and you would be denying me that extra bonus.

I do see the OPs point and it used to be better for the shopper before they started using the barcode reducie stickers because back in the old days you got any offer that was displayed inc the buy 2 for 5 pounds, youstill got the extra 98p discount. It should maybe be made clear to the consumer. However as it stands there is NO deception, if a product says buy two for 5 pounds, and they are not reduced to less than 2.50 ea you will still get the two for 5 pounds (pointless I know) if they are less than 2.50 ea you will get them for less than 5 pounds so no deception has taken place.

I say it is a case of "buyer beware" if the buyer is too stupid to realise that 2 x 2.49 = 4.98 and that there is legal requirement for the store to give the extra 98p discount, well that's their problem not mine.
