Just found this site and registered hoping for some help regarding Tucan Claims. My mother-in-law who is in the later stages of Dementia has paid £249.99 to this company unbeknown to myself and my husband who actually have power of attorney. No idea how they got through on the phone as we have paid for a block on col;d callers. What annoys us is that it would have been obvious to whoever called her that she wasn't right, trouble is she can't say NO to anyone who calls. It's a constant worry....is there anything we can do to get her money back?0 -
Write to The Managing Director, Tucan Claims Limited, 10-12 Dunraven Place, Bridgend, CF31 1JD.
Head your letter:
FORMAL COMPLAINT OF MISSELLING BY TUCAN CLAIMS LIMITED
Explain exactly what you have stated here. Tell them that they have committed a CRIMINAL OFFENCE by cold calling a TPS number and demand immediate repayment of the entire amount plus interest at the statutory rate of 8% per annum.
If they refuse then complain to the MOJ.
If they do pay, wait until the money is safely in your Mother-In-Law's account (and the cheque is cleared). Then complain to the MOJ0 -

I received a call today from Tucan claims. I was suspicious immediately as the lady had a very strong accent and mispronounced my name. She said she had information regarding my credit card. I asked her 'what credit card'. She didn't answer but instead launched into her 'Let me explain what the company is about' spiel.
I stopped her and said to her 'No, first, tell me what company you are calling from'. She said 'Tucan'. I said to her that I was on the telephone preference service and that she should not be phoning me. She got very flustered and started going about how I was due compensation because my credit card limit was increased without my permission.
I again stopped her and asked 'What credit card?'. After some more telling-off from me, she put me through to her supervisor who had marginally better English. She started off with 'As we know, you have had a credit card for a long time ...'. I said, 'No, I never said that. Tell me what information you have about my credit card'. She eventually admitted that she had no information about my credit card but that she could get me compensation because my credit card limit was increased without my permission.
I said, 'So, as I said to the first lady, this is a cold-call marketing call, you are hoping that I have a credit card in the hope that I will sign up to some service or other. You are not supposed to be calling me because I am on the Telephone Preference Service and I strongly resent having to answer random phone calls from people trying to sell me something.'
She said 'Goodbye'.
What shysters are these? I've just looked up their website and found this thread and My God but this kind of thing makes my blood boil. :mad:0 -

I was reconciling my elderly aunt's bank account today (she has Alzheimers's Disease and I have power of attorney). I noticed a charge of £249.99 (any reason for this number banking regulations wise perchance?).
The payee was tuncan Denmark. I got in touch with the bank and told them that this was a fraudulent transaction. They said it had been put through "on the internet" . Not possible I replied. Then they said it had been authorised as a "customer not present transaction" over the telephone.
The Bank has agreed to put this into dispute and charge it back.
I telephoned the company (there is an 0800 no. on saynoto0870) I finally got through after several long waits on my 3rd attempt. I was told I had to "complain in writing to admin @ toucanclaims not the "enquiries" email. I have done this.
I have also complained to the TPS about my aunt getting this call in the first place and also have made a formal request under the Data Protection Act 1998 for all information held by them on my aunt. Form letters to do this can be found on the The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) website.
I have also given them notice that I shall be invoicing them at a rate of £50 per hour from tomorrow, for all time spent on resolving this going forward.
This is preying on the weak and vulnerable and it's a disgrace that Trading Standards and Consumer Direct have not been more proactive in this.
Complaints to these organisations will follow tomorrow.0 -
Formal complaint made to Consumer Direct. Also informed my aunt's local police station.
These "cold calls" have been a persistent source of trouble
I've been researching a method to protect my aunt from unsolicited cold calls and I've come across this device.
The device is called a Truecall and the website is www dot truecall dot co dot uk
I phoned up about it, basically it blocks all inbound calls, except for those on a starred/authorised list. Other unauthorised calls not on the list, can be directed to a voicemail with my number on it. Telling them to get in touch with me.
It can be controlled remotely via the Internet and can give a report of the numbers that have attempted to call as well.
£100 for device and £15 p/a for remote control via the web after the first year.
They say it does not interfere with alarms, aid call etc.
Anybody any experience of using this device and does it work?0 -

Yeah. I started a thread on it after doing a search and have got some helpful advice.
I think I'll get one for her, even though it's quite expensive.0 -
Just wanted to tell you all that 6 months after my mother took out a Tucan claim and paid over the £249.99, and after cancelling the agreement the next day, she has not received the money back yet!0

This company called my home yesterday and my daughter answered the call (as I was not home). They kept asking about my credit cards and my daughter kept telling them I dont have any credit cards and wasnt interested in any ppi claims. They even told her to get my card details and they would call her back today!!!! She told them not to bother and hung up.
The same guy called again today while I was out (my daughter doesnt know his name as couldnt understand him properly) and he asked her if she had managed to get my card details!!!! She told him in no uncertain terms that I am not interested and she would not be trying to get any of my personal details for him and he wasnt to call again. He then changed tack and said he wanted to be her friend as he had only just moved to the UK..she told him she had enough friends and if he wanted to make friends then he needed to go out and meet some. He then said he could come to the house and even though she threatened to charge him with harrassment he still continued to claim he could come to the house!! I sent an email to the company and complained and a 'manager' called and said he was calling as my daughter obviously hadnt understood that they were just trying to help me claim money back...I have requested they do not call again.
I have spoken to our local police and am lodging a formal statement as I believe their behaviour on the phone was harassment and bordering on threatening behaviour as he was claiming he could come to the house!!!0
