So boo sucks all you doubters!!!!
I hope that yours does go thru. I asked them about it on the 3rd and was told it's a no no even then.I already had an old esaver account with CBS from years back which has 6p in it, and I just logged in and applied for this new account, with no problem.
Was is it esaver 50+ account?0 -
In the last 5 minutes I have received this reply
Thanks very much for your message.
I can confirm that due to the terms and conditions of the Esave if you already hold a Fifty/Sixty Plus Esave account, you are unable to open a Fifty Plus version as you can only open one of these types of accounts in a lifetime.
You will have benefited from a great rate of interest as all eSave customers have received at least 6.25% AER fixed for 12 months from when their account was first opened.
This has been during a period where, because of significant economic uncertainty, the Bank of England base rate has fallen to an unprecedented 0.50% and has actually been 3.00% or below since November 2008.
The current second year eSave variable rate of 2.0% AER is well in excess of the initial guarantee made at the time of opening and is currently 1.50% above the current Bank of England base rate.
However, we do not want you to miss out on the opportunity of earning 3.25% on your savings and so we have launched a new eBond that pays the same competitive rate fixed until 31.08.2010. It is available on balances from 1.00 up to a maximum of 250,000 and while many fixed rate bonds do not allow access to funds, with our eBond, withdrawals are permitted subject to a 90 day loss of interest on the amount withdrawn. If you would like to apply for this new account, please visit our website to do so.
If you require any further assistance, please contact us. We aim to answer your enquiry within two working days.
Kind Regards

Doesn't this go 100% against what Standinman was told. (I applied on the 3rd btw.)0 -

Applied on the 3rd and been waiting for the application form to be sent. Just rang to chase and was told my application was OK but I needed to print it off myself and send in. Told to re-apply on-line. So I did. Application OK again, but screen shows: "what happens next? We'll post a copy of your application to you straight-away......"
So I rang again to check and was given the old:" can only ever have one esave account" story.
Many apologies given a) for the lack of on-line info declining the application AND b) for declining me despite the "we don't launch products that are only available to new customers." policy.
But no joy as I used to have an esave (1).0 -
As an existing holder of one of the older versions of the eSave account I phoned Coventry B.S. on Friday evening in order to establish my eligibility to open the new eSave[6]. I was informed that it was in order for me to apply and that I could do so online on the following day i.e. Sat 4th June.
However, because of the doubts I had regarding my eligibility as a result of reading this thread I decided to make a further call to Coventry B.S. on the Saturday before going ahead with my application. This time I was told I was not able to make a valid application. On pointing out that the situation was both confusing and annoying a supervisor agreed that my application could go ahead if it could be established that I had been given leave to apply when I phoned on the Friday. The result was a phone call from Coventry B.S. indicating that my application would be accepted. My experience seems to support what standinman2009 is saying.
What I believe may have happened is that as a result of complaints from holders of the older versions of eSave a decision was made to allow their applications for the most recent version, but that decision was subsequently reversed.
The whole situation has, methinks, a slight air of '!!!! up'.0 -
In the light of the responses to bawbee & others by Coventry BS I have just e-mailed them to complain about not being treated the same in being allowed to transfer from V3 to v6.
Will see what happens. Suggest other members complain similarly!0 -
