I do not mean this in a bad way, but I do not see many over 50s opening an internet account.

My Gran cant turn the computer on, let alone surf the net!

I am over 50 and may consider opening this account. Surprisingly, our generation not only has the money to open such accounts:eek: but can also manage to turn PCs on:D

I have just tried unsuccessfully to change my eSave(3) account to the new eSave(6) as others in this thread.

I have also found this on the "Membership and You" page on their website:-

"Everyone who has a savings account or mortgage with the Coventry is a member and shares in our success. We think it's important that all members are treated equally so:
Savings and mortgage products available to new customers are open on the same terms to existing Coventry members - we don't launch products that are only available to new customers.
We don't have any 'Premier' or 'Gold' customers at the Coventry because, whether you have £100 or £100,000 with us, you'll receive the same service however you deal with us."

It looks as if they are guilty of misrepresentation to me.
Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

I have emailed them pointing this out and asking to change from an issue 3 to an issue 6 in accordance with their statement that they don't launch products only available to new customers.

However, I have a feeling that they will stick closely to the wording, i.e. "products available to new customers are open on the same terms to existing Coventry members" and the conditions state that you can only ever open one. I think they will reply that these same terms apply to new customers, not that old customers can have the new issue.

I think we're on a loser but one can hope.

I don't see how this wording can be interpreted to exclude anyone.

    The wording
"we don't launch products that are only available to new customers."
is in total contradiction of what they are actually doing.

I'm with you dejjones, and agree entirely. However, I think they'll wriggle out of it by saying that it's not a new product, just a new issue of an existing product and that existing customers already have this product on terms they agreed to, i.e they agreed they can only ever have one. Some kind of legal speak will come into it I'm sure - but I'm getting on and have become cynical ;) .

I'll post back when (if) I get a reply to my email. Have you also contacted them regarding this wording?

Yes, I spoke to their customer services and was given the, you can only have one 50 plus account etc, etc. When I quoted the wording at them, I was promised a call back from a "supervisor"

The new product isn't only available to new customers. It is also available to existing customers who haven't already had an account of the same type.

I'd be interested to know what they say if they do call back. We can compare notes!
  • Hi all i just spoke with the nice folks at the coventry .the definitive deal is if you did your application on the 3 rd it will be opened ,but if you applied on the 4 th onwards the restriction then applies to not being able to open a new 50 plus ,having already had one ,so they have now confirmed they will be opening me a new 50 plus account transfering money from my old account to open it!!!
So boo sucks all you doubters!!!!
