50 is not that old, its the new middleaged :p Seriously I would doubt the computer skills of whichever youngster made such a short sighted comment

They have been messing around with computers at home since the 70's Back then you could even build your own, the 1st apple was done this way and thats an argument for knowing more not less.
Also if you went to uni you would have been able to use the internet though not as we currently know it

    A&L Online Saver Issue 5
Is this just a case of switching funds from the old A&L account to a new one

I do not mean this in a bad way, but I do not see many over 50s opening an internet account.

My Gran cant turn the computer on, let alone surf the net!

Couldn't agree with you more, our children and grandchildren say the same all the time.
One of these days we are going to buy a computer, get an ISP and start taking the p1ss out of people in chat rooms.
Apart from that we haven't got a clue what to do when we grow up.

Ah yes but that's a bond, whereas the A&L is instant access.

Tried explaining that already (post 22), but he's still insisting on using a thread about an instant access account to compare with an apple, sorry pear, no blanket..

As an over-60 who can use a computer and does internet banking ;) and has a 50 Plus issue 3, I tried to apply for this new issue. Before completing the online application the Ts and Cs come up and it clearly states that you can only ever open one 50 Plus, as Ruy says,

Just 'phoned Coventry BS to check about closing existing version 3 of this account to transfer to a new version 6.

They confirmed that you can only ever have one version of this account, even if you have closed a previous version !

The only option for existing ( or previously held ) account holders is the alternative bond.

so by agreeing to the Ts and Cs you really can't go any further with the application. I think Standinman has been given some misinformation by a customer adviser, most likely a young person (under 50 :rotfl: ) who doesn't know their job very well.

Let's hope that the application processors are youngsters too, and if so, maybe they'll let the erroneous applications proceed.

Excuse me, but that is a ridiculous statement. I am 65 and not only do I know how to turn a computer on, I have managed online banking for many years now. The fact that so many organisation offer better rates for "wrinklies" should tell you you that there are 1000's of us "oldies" out there looking for better rates to supplement out meagre pensions:mad::mad::mad::mad:

You have been given the wrong info, phoned them yesterday to double check terms having read an earlier post here. Once you have had a 50+esaver then that is it - no more. As other posters have stated you are still not eligible even if the previous esaver has been closed.
