BTW try squashing a CW caterpillar and then smell it, you will see why hens won't touch them
Thanks, nice to know they will eat some caterpillars. They have done a great job of polishing off the majority of slugs/snails though! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

It's a nice sunny day today so I'm going to dig through my clay and kill caterpillars. Blooming moth found my staging area for the brassicas.0 -
What do I need to spray on my brussels and broccoli?
The dreaded cabbage white is lurking about. I've squashed and removed a few clutches of eggs but I'm going away and would like to know what I can spray them with before I go, I don't want to come back to a few stalks.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Can you get some netting over them; I spray with a chilli and garlic spray but you have to do this over a few days to keep them off.
I also bought some netting from wilkos yesterday - £2.99 for quite decent sizes, and made a new cage for mine......you could throw it over the top and peg it down for the time being.0 -
Hi there
Also I have kept rhubarb leaves in a large barrel added water and let rot down for a couple of weeks then add some soap flakes that have been dissolved in warm water. Mix the two together and spray over the cabbages etc. It smells disgusting but so far has worked for me.:mad:0 -
I remember my grandad used to spray weak washing up solution on his roses to stop the aphids, would this work as a stop gap?
I have put some netting over but the sods are getting in underneath.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Somebody told me that although washing up liquid is OK be careful with these ones that kill all know germs as they can be a bit harsh.:mad:0

I know the feeling Rikki, I had put envirofleece over my cabbages and caulis but somehow a cabbage white has managed to get in and they are like lace curtains now!
Really annoyed as one of the caulis in particular was lovely and is ruined now. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
