Doesn't it cross anyone's mind here that the hardened something for nothing society and benefit cheats have no need for this forum?
I think by and large people who come here are most likely in need of some honest advice, there seems to always be this assumption among some people that everyone is on the hookey.
People who live their entire life on benefits couldn't care less what anyone else thinks and certainly don't need to come here to find their way round the system.
Vicky
You haven't been here very long. Stay around and you will see loads of people wanting advice on maintaining or increasing their benefit payments by manipulating or circumventing the system.
Still hopefully the Conservatives will win the next election and make the social payment cuts that are needed to keep the country out of Carey Street. Otherwise no one will get any benefits if the country goes bust.0 -
I think I said further up this thread Shel that autism is a spectrum condition, glad you find it's funny!
Your husband is obviously really high functioning.
My opinion already stated is that autism is probably over diagnosed, no way do I believe people should be just claiming benefits when really there is not a lot wrong with them or using AS as an excuse for being different or even something of a misfit.
However if you knew anything at all of the genuine suffers of AS and autism then you would know that Breastcancer lady is behaving in a completely typical manner, just because your husband isn't that affected doesn't make you right.
I'm partially deaf should I say that those who are saying they hear nothing at all are just putting it on?
I suppose it's good there is a forum like this, lets the totally ignorant vent their spleen, after all who else is going to listen to them:rotfl:
Vicky
I dont find Autism funny, I find the you and your bizzare comments justifying racisim and arrogance with hidden disabilities funny. If you agree with her vile opinions on racisim just say so dont try and justify it.
I know plenty about Aspergers and Autism thank you. I attend a group with my OH with people on the spectrum to varying degrees. I'm also a social worker and am trained in and work with people with AS every day.
I think you'll find Aspergers and Autism are not the same the the thing they are linked conditions on a wide spectrum, nor are the symptoms the same in each person but there are traits and difinitves which appear in all, again to varying degrees those difinitives are what now allows diagnosis to take place.
Yes I am aware AS diagnosis has increased substantially but I do not believe this is misdiagnosis or labeling. This has resulted due to the fact it was not fully known about and then practically ignored when it was recognised until fairly recently. Many adults are now being diagnosised who were classified as naughty/absent/distant children in school. In much the same way I was labled as clumsy and lazy then as an adult diagnosed with dyspraxia.
I'm glad you agree that people should not, unless there condition wont allow it, to stay in the benefits trap using their diability as an excuse. It's something I work hard on with the kids I work with because it's an easy trap to fall in to and the longer you're in it the harder it is to get out.
People come on here a are asking questions from a wide section of the community which includes the same people who will make decisons about their lives, benefits claims and care. Answers are given on fact of law, policy, what we know works based on our employment and our own opinions. If people want to abuse posters who are advising them on this basis then they should go ask elsewhere to someone who will not actually give them advice but agree with everything they say so they feel good about what they are doing.0 -
Whats the relevence of being a social worker?
We don't have social services involved with my children, hopefully never will.
As for attending a group, sorry I didn't realise, stand corrected, that must make you up there with SBC, fountain of all knowledge.
Wont bore you with all the organizations and campaigns I am involved in because I don't believe it means I know any more than anyone else on AS/ASD.
I could probably dig out all the recent studies and reports on incidence, stating better diagnosis is only one factor responsible for the increase but to be honest can't be bothered arguing the toss with someone who suffers from rigid thinking, now where have I seen that before?
One thing I will say though with complete confidence is that answers are not always given based on fact, policy etc often times they are just kicking someone when they are down, and yes, I haven't been here long but long enough to notice.
Oh and thanks for pointing out the difference between Aspergers and Autism I would never have known that:rolleyes:

Vicky, having social service involvement is no bad thing.
Social services can offer a lot of support and help to families struggling with disabiliites, parents needing respite, other siblings needing time away from dealing with the extra pressures put on the family.
It is not a stigma unlike you make it soundBR date 18/11/090 -
i believe benefits should be cut..
Or at least set as a pecentage of GDP for everyone claiming. I.e 5% of GDP goes on benefits.... if 5 million claim they get 5% GPS divided etc... if 10 million claim they all get half.
At least it wont be crippling us ... and is kinda self controllng.. too many people claim.. will force people back into work as it drops and drops.0 -

IMO you seem to be making excuses for the racist remarks of another poster and you are choosing to do it in a high and mighty smug way. I completely agree with Shel and would say that her being a SW is very relevant as she has had experience dealing with individuals with ASDs first hand in a professional way. SW just don't deal with policy but they take a very hands on approach to supporting their clients.0 -

Oh I'm not high and mighty at all, infact I prefer not to judge other people I don't even know, still maybe you have a different understanding of high and mighty.
Sel may well have experience of working with individuals in a professional way as you put it, and................
I will always defend people who are being bullied, goes with the territory when you have as many close relatives on the spectrum as I have, no one here will stop me doing it. Bullying is such a horrible, nasty unbecoming trait, don't you think?
