get a Airplane headphone jack here

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=28654

    Even cheaper here:-

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skytronic-AIRPLANE-HEADPHONE-SOCKET-ADAPTOR/dp/B0012IKBI0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1259269058&sr=8-1

I got one for each of our headphones as I thought I would need them, but all the aircraft we flew on (United Airlines) were single jack so they weren't needed.

Thank you for your responses and thanks to Luci for making me aware of the £20 cancellation charge, like you said, I will check again in a few months to see if there are better deals to be had & if its worth it I will cancel

I understand that seatguru shows IFE, but why would Delta's website say that there is nothing? I think I will call them to make sure before booking. Will deffo by the headphones too.

God, I am so excited! I can hardly wait, let hope these next 6 months fly by. Only been to the states once and that was to Florida so this is all new to me!
  • Vegas show is 90 minutes and despite the -ve comments, the show was brilliant - the only thing I can put this down to is that the acting in London may be cack compared to the Vegas cast.

And, who just won another Poker tournament??? Ohhhh shhhhheeeeeeeet ba ba baby!

Flying out on the 10th of December, first time, just curious to know which tournaments you are playing in, buyin, number of entrants etc etc? Keep up the hot streak! :j

Even when the jack is 2 pin, we've just used our regular headphones with a single pin and put it in the one that it fits and they've been fine.

Sometimes that only give mono. tony used two set on the way home from Vegas. One for each ear, they were the small type of headphones. We got them for answering a questionnaire for google while we were in the airport waiting for our flight.

They work really well in the gym sockets for working out. (So Tony says)

Hi, currently in Vegas and as I'd got lots of info from here thought I'd post some info, hope it's useful.

Stayed overnight at the sofitel Gatwick (£60 inc breakfast) and cannot fault it, brilliant for the price. Decent room, couple of restaurant choices. We arrived by train and took the free gatwick shuttle bus to get from south to north after dropping our bags at twilight check-in. They are currently running a shuttle from the hotel to the South Terminal for £2 which saves a lot of walking so worth the £2.

Flew from Gatwick with Virgin, direct flight is a bonus but as I think others have already said it's an old plane, the films are on a loop so you have to decide what to watch and watch it without interruption. It got us there and the staff were all excellent but the food was not good to say the least but I guess it never is on a plane. I've noticed Virgin seem to be delayed a lot on this route and we were delayed by 90mins.

Immigration line not too bad, got a cab from the airport, asked for the most direct route via swenson to avoid tunnel and fare was $18 plus tip (lots of traffic).

Staying at the mirage and $20 trick gets us a tower delux upgrade to 25th floor, larger bathroom and a set of lifts just for 24th and 25th floor (happy with the upgrade as the room is nice and quiet).

Used Tix-4-tonight for a discount at Bally's steakhouse, half price main courses for $3 each, saved us $35 and we'd planned to go there anyway. Food at Ballys was very good but lacked vegetables (but that appears to be a common theme in las vegas steak restaurants). Have restaurant.com vouchers for a couple of restaurants at Mandalay bay, plan on using those at the weekend or early next week.

Also eaten at the Grand Lux in the venetian (breakfast and a lunch, lunch not bad but breakfast was poor), California Pizza Kitchen at the mirage, nothing outstanding.

Bought a couple of cheap mobiles, brings the cost of calling UK landlines down to 15 cents per minute instead of over £1 per minute using our UK mobiles. It also means we can do our own thing and stay in contact.

All of the casinos are less smokey than last year which is good, everywhere very busy today as it's thanksgiving. Haven't booked a restaurant so not sure where we will end up.

Free wifi is available all over the venetian (where I am now). Let me know if I can answer any questions and I'll post over the weekend.

The next part is probably only of interest if you play poker...

We are poker players so that's what we're spending most of our time on. Both been a bit unlucky a couple of times in tounraments, getting the money in ahead and being outdrawn. I was 30th in yesterdays Venetian noon touranment, I called an all-in with AK putting him on a weaker ace, I was right but his A5 hit a flush and I couldn't recover from there with too short a stack. Mrs Goingonholiday is currently still in today's noon venetian tournament and there are 18 players left so I'm hopeful - though her pocket aces just lost to trip 10's and 8's, she was chip leader and raised pre-flop enough to put anyone else all-in after a raiser and 2 decided to go all-in, one with pocket 10's the other with pocket 8's, she is nolonger chip leader! Slightly ahead in cash games, standard isn't very good at low limits so hoping to do well!

That's because most of the steakhouse in Vegas as A La Carte which means you have to order your vegetables as a side dish. When we went there I think we ordered sides of onions, mushrooms, baked potato and fries.

Two places I can think of where the vegetables are included are Planet Dailies and the Cortez Room at the Gold Coast, but they are not dedicated steak houses.

Looking forward to the rest of your trip report.

The Steakhouse at Circus Circus isn't a la carte...if memory serves you get green beans and choice of a potato with your steak...but I agree that it's quite rare for a steakhouse in Vegas to not be a la carte.

Don't know if people already know this (and discount vouchers may be readily available but not sure as I've not been yet!), but if you are a member of the AA and show your card seems you can get a 10% discount at the Hard Rock Cafe and 15% discount at the Harley Davidson Cafe (off food and non-alcoholic drinks)

I have been trying to find out a list of places that give a discount on food and room rates with an AA card, (guess they have a reciprocal with the AAA to give discounts), but the AA here have no info
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
