Hey guys, on the whole, there are some very good and constructive comments on here, so what would you say about the Thrill Rides in LV. I used to really love them but now in my mid 30's i'm starting to get cold feet at the prospect of a 224ft drop

Then again, you only live once so which rides do you all suggest?

    Cheers

If 224ft has you worried don't go near the Stratosphere where ther rides have you dangling over the side at approx 900ft!!! Their big shot takes you up to 1081 ft but its not as scary as the other ones....shudder.

If you are used to UK rides at places like alton towers then you will be disappointed with whats in LV. circus circus has a double corkscrew, double loop inside ride, but most people seem to rate the coaster at the Sahara and the one at NYNY the best.

If you make it out to Primm, the Desperado is a "classic"

    Day 10

We had already bought out tickets for the night's entertainment so didn't need to do any queueing which mad a nice change.

We had our final move today from Flamingo to Paris, luckily we still had the car so we packed it up and headed for the shopping mall south on the strip from Mandalay Bay. We both got bargains, I got 3 pairs of shoes for just over £100, we get a set of three suitcases, not sure how much but they are really sturdy and some perfume for my sister as the one she likes doesn't seem to be sold over here.

All of a sudden we seemed to be running out of time and still wanted to check into the hotel, we thought if we waited until later we might not get such a good room. The woman at the Paris was lovely and did what she could for us. She gave us a room on the 19th floor which looked towards the tower and Bellagio fountains with the aid of a $20 tip. However we then asked if there was any way of a getting a far better upgrade and how much it would cost. I am in the Armed Forces so we played on that to see if that would sway anything. She went away to chat with the manager but seeing as it was Thursday and we were going to be there over the weekend they were already fully booked for the suites, the room was really lovely so never mind. Although we didn't get what we were after her service was brilliant and we did get the initial upgrade so that was ok.

We made a dash then to the Hilton for the evening's entertainment. The original plan was to try their buffet, however we ran out of time and dinner was coutesy of a fast food chain. So what did we see...? Barry Manilow and wow he was a great showman. We are both musicians and have played a lot of his music through our work so we thought it would be good to see him at work. We also thought that 1) it was probably cheaper to see him in the US than if he came over here and 2) he is quite old and probably wouldn't come over anyway, plus it was his opening night back in Vegas so we jumped at the chance.

The band on stage were amazing, and even though they had some technical glitches everything was great. We didn't know all of the stuff but it didn't matter and we had a great evening. I think his stint is for quite a while so if you can get along to see him, it is a good night's entertainment.

    Day 11

We were approached by more timeshare people the previous day and just couldn't be bothered with them, however we decided that maybe we could make them not take so long and we could once again save some money on show tickets. All I will say is hmm!

Westgate at Planet Hollywood here we come, we knew they were giving away Peepshow tickets and that was what we wanted to see so it made sense. We thought it was starting out quite well, we got a really laid back guy and it all seemed ok. The rooms were great and in fairness they had a far better deal and overall financial product than Hilton but why won't they take no for an answer. I know you get the initial guy and then they get their manager over to try and give you their special offer for you that they give everyone else in the room. The manager normally then does a quality control kind of questionnaire and you get you gift, not Planet Hollywood. They had someone else come over to do the questionnaire who tries another sales tactic, she unfortunately was quite pushy and once we said for the final time that we really weren't interested she became very abrupt and we were out of the room within minutes. We weren't even given a warm reception by the ticket girls. Ok we got free tickets but we felt like we had done something very wrong when we left.

Ok so far X-Burlesque had been my favourite show but no longer. Peepshow was great. It had Holly Madison as the main crowd puller, we had no idea who she was. She is famous for being in The Girl Next Door but I only know that cos I looked it up to put it on here. She was the only 'fake girl' and the whole show could have carried on perfectly well without her. All the girls sang and danced really well, the compere was far better than the girl in Fantasy and they all looked really good too. I am not sure how all the shows compare price wise but this is definately worth going to. It is a bit more of a striptease show and it has a story behind it if anyone really bothers to follow it.

For the UK audience The Girls Next Door is better known as "The Girls of the Playboy Mansion" and Holly a famous Hefner bunny.

chickened out of Speed @ Sahara and the Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere . but i did go on X Scream @ The Stratosphere , very scary . if you plan on going on the Stratosphere rides , you can buy a all inclusive package with your ticket to go up there , which will save you money .

Manhattan Express @ NYNY is good fun ride IMO . 2 for 1 tickets are very easy to come by for it .

Canyon Blaster @ Circus Circus is also a good ride ,but the only one worth trying in the Adventuredome unless you have kids with you . so don't buy a ticket that includes passes for all the rides , just get a basic pass and pay to go on the Canyon Blaster .

also don't forget The Desperado roller coaster @ Primm ( a 30 min car ride towards California) where you can also go shopping at the outlet mall ( see guide for details ) .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

I've just read that the day I fly to Vegas (Sun Aug30th) there is the possibility of airport staff striking....

    http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1131101_air_passengers_face_strike_misery

What would happen if the staff DO go on strike?? What are my options?? I'm really worried about this, I've saved for 12 months for this holiday and it might all be ruined!!!

    Any advice???

If you ride Desperado make sure that when you reach the top of the initial climb you plant your head against the headrest. I didn't, and as we dropped my head dropped and all that force pushed my head down way farther than it should have and I was seriously worried I'd done something terrible to my neck for the next few days. :)

As far as excitement though - it was a great ride...

The one at NYNY is really bumpy and throws you around a lot. Somewhere I have photos of the bruises on my back.

Maybe I'm just too delicate for these things.

Sorry, I cannot give you any advice but I can say that I'll be hoping that the strike does not go forward for you and anyone else travelling that day...will be thinking happy, non-striking thoughts for you.
