So whats the options so far then?

    1) He's a train driver who has covered some shifts as a guard, or vice versa
    2) He's told a little white lie to maybe impress Sarah
    3) Sarah has misheard something, or something has been lost in translation
    4) He's a cad and a bounder, who has been spinning a wicked web of lies to ensare Sarah, have his wicked way with her, and sell of her off into the slave trade when he's finished.

I'm favouring a more innocent explanation.

    4. Definitely 4. He's probably an alien in disguise as well. Any second now he'll rip off the 21 year old man disguise and wave his tentacles in her face... ooh er missus.

Seriously though, OP, so nice to know people look out for each other - and that you've had a few nice meetings with someone who's treating you normally for a change. That's the least you deserve, and best of luck. xxxx
:grin:If at first you don't succeed, then sky-diving isn't for you

Think Liam is right and you should be careful.A friend who works on SW trains tells me that its a load of crap - doing one job and 'covering' for someone who does another - never gonna happen sister!! Maybe he's young and trying to impress you ........ maybe not ...........

And your friend is talking rot himself :D
    Couple of points-
You may find a driver covering for a guard, but not vice-versa. A driver needs to be specifically trained on a route, whereas a guard in essence only needs to be able to operate the ticket machine. (A little more complicated yes, but not much)
You will also not find general station staff covering for traincrew, these are two different sets of people.

Yes, it'd be unusual to find a 21 year old driver, but not necessarily a member of traincrew. Traincrew isn't just the driver and guard, there are the people behind the buffet, with the tea trolley, sorting 1st class passsengers etc. etc. it's perfectly possible he was one of these.

I don't care if this story has a lot of flaws in it. It is a nice feelgood tale to counteract the Labour run Police State we currently live in.;)

Your talking "rot" yourself as you put it.

The OP said that the guy she met was a 21 year old train driver, but on the day she met him he was covering for guard duties. I didn't say what job he did either way.

What I said was, it was very unlikely that a 21 year old would be a train driver, which I think everybody agrees on.

It may be possible that the guy was just a ticket collector, train crew etc, which I implied in my first post. But that is clearly not what the OP said.

You should read the posts fully before commenting on them.

I agree. It is a bit like Father Christmas.Who cares whether it is true or not? It has a feel good factor and it is nice to read the thread.

I don't know why it still surprises me that so many people are so keen to pick holes, call posters liars, denigrate other peoples comments and generally get into an unpleasant exchange of views. Hells teeth, the girl asked a simple question, people got interested in how things were progressing and then a few people start slagging off her, the so called driver/guard and anyone else who is a sucker for a bit of romance.

Perhaps he is a rotten S**, maybe she is a writer for Mills and Boon - or maybe its all basically true other than a LITTLE exageration for effect. Who really cares - lets just wish her luck and enjoy the fairy tale.

Why are you surprised? She started out a little 'fragile' and I expect the unpleasant critisisms have done absolutley nothing for her self esteem.

I agree 100%.Whether it is true or not,if it makes her happy and makes others happy why bring her down? She has not committed a crime or anything.

I can only suggest that in the absence of Ms Moons update to this funicular bodice ripper, that I refer readers to my opening prose in posting no 71 and continue this fictional tale of daring do yourselves.

If it is good enough,we can get it published...
