    I am not saying the OP is from Leeds, but seen as dfh mentioned she was travelling from Leeds, this story would be even less unlikely.

    In Leeds you cannot get onto the train platform without a ticket. Even trainspotters need to buy a platform ticket if they want to go look at the train.

    So if the OP had of originally travelled from Leeds, it would be unlikely that her ex boyfriend will have chased her to the train station, stopped to buy a platform ticket and then made it in time to try and stop her getting on the train!

    I don't know how many other train stations have the same policy, but that is definitely the case for Leeds.

    Most big stations have barriers, are going to have barriers or at least have people (often private secuirty gards) checking tickets. Manchester Picadilly and Victoria 99% of the time have securior staff checking tickets and I am sure would have stepped in to an arguement with a ticket holder and a non-ticket holder. Unless the ex-boyfriend queued up for a platform ticket before running after her to stop her getting on the train. ;)
