I used Virgin trains once & they were !!!!!!.

Stifling hot with no way to make them cooler (no windows you can open) plus in the so-called "quiet carriage" (where mobiles are banned so you can get some kip if you want to) they had a PR system that announced DEAFENINGLY loudly every station you were arriving at (not kidding, so loud it was painful). Since my 3+ hour journey had many stops I spent the whole time wide awake in a stifilingly hot carriage.

    The guards were polite though.

Indeed - I used to be one a few years back and giving good customer service was the main thing drilled into us time and again.

But I also knew of one or two male colleagues who would go rather too far if they thought they had a chance with a damsel in distress or similar, which was one of the things that sounded a little worrying about this thread. Would the guard/driver whatever his job is/was have performed similar customer service skills for distressed citizens of the male variety, one wonders. Must be getting cynical in my old age, lol.

I've been on that train with the deafening tannoy, was it on the Crewe to Liverpool line by any chance? It made me jump out of my skin, and I had to cover my ears. Luckily I was only on it for half an hour. I thought the train was quite plush though (having just got off an Arriva one!).

Lovely story on this thread, must admit I only read the first page, but I hope all is going well, and it doesn't really matter if it "shouldn't be here" does it?

Maybe a board guide could move it to the Arms if it offends.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I should think anyone noticing a male in tears and looking distressed would be approached by someone or other and asked if they were alright. Unless they were staggering around drunk, that is.

Its because the guards are busy texting and it delays them blowing their whistles

The minimum age for a train driver on Network Rail lines is 21; 18 on the London Underground or for employment wholly within depot confines. Remember that these are only legal minimums; the way the industry works these days means you will probably be well above these ages before you get a driving job.

he was a train manager not a driver ive been a train manager for virgin trains since i was 19 years old so what are you on about get your facts right first:rotfl:

Your talking "rot" yourself as you put it.

The OP said that the guy she met was a 21 year old train driver, but on the day she met him he was covering for guard duties. I didn't say what job he did either way.

What I said was, it was very unlikely that a 21 year old would be a train driver, which I think everybody agrees on.

It may be possible that the guy was just a ticket collector, train crew etc, which I implied in my first post. But that is clearly not what the OP said.

You should read the posts fully before commenting on them.

but in liams defence drivers NEVER cover guards jobs the union would have them strung up
