Your email is not a shocker. It is long and boring and I lost interest halfway through.

Only just seen this thread. I got a free service at a Nationwide centre through my Tesco vouchers. I thought they were very good actually. The guy was very helpful, pointed out a potential problem which he said they could do but Id probably get it done cheaper elsewhere :)

By way of coincidence I have just received a cold call telling me my MOT Guarantee with NA had expired in April. Did I want to renew?

Reading this thread made me feel a little sad - yes some of you have had bad experiences with a company - that is the way of life, but then you all started arguing with each other. i use MSE regularly and tend to use another one of the forums and everyone on the one I normally use is really nice and chatty but this one just seems to be a page of arguments - be nice please!

Update from me on ongoing case:
Nationwide Autocentre have taken steps to rectify damage done and poor service. I have been discussing the issue in depth with one of the four regional ops managers and he has identified some serious failings.
Firstly, they have agreed to fix the damage to both front tyres. Though they have initially said that do not accept that they were responsible for the damage, but they could not explain why the car was so noticeably different after it left their garage.

They have also offered a full refund on the service. There are still some items that they have not done for which they charged my partner, but given the extent of the problems meant that I was more focused on getting the car back on the road more than anything. The offer of the refund is very welcome and I'd like to express my thanks to NA for the offer.

Having now collected the car since it has had its third post inspection, this time by the senior manager mentioned above, it now drives exactly how it did when it was dropped off at the garage in the first place. This was due to very poorly executed wheel balancing.

The question that has now presented itself is that if the problem with how the car was driving after being in the garage was only due to the wheel balancing, then why did it take two visits to the garage and three post inspections to rectify it?!?!?

There are still so many questions that I require a formal response to from Nationwide Autocentre, so I will writing them up this weekend and asking for a full response to everything.

I will insist that Nationwide Autocentre subscribe to the Motoring Industry Code of Practice and will also let you all know what happens with this.
For me personally, I think I'm more concerned now knowing that the huge problem of the car not being able to be driven was simply due to the way in which the wheel balancing was executed rather than the possibility that someone had driven into a curb as suggested by the Nationwide Autocentre technician.

My recommendation to you all still stands; Do not use Nationwide Autocentre at all. When I start to hear back from VOSA, trading standards, ASA, the AA, etc. I will let you know what their comments are and what they re doing about all of this. I have already spoken with some very shocked individuals from these organisations.

Thanks again to all of you who have posted relevant comments, I think the other people who were more intersted in hijacking this thread with arguments got bored and have gone elsewhere.

Please keep your constructive comments coming. I will let you know what happens.
  • I think you should contact BBC Watchdog, I'm sure this is just the sort of thing they would cover.

You should also post this on the Honest John forum http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/index.htm

Good suggestion. I contacted Watchdog several weeks ago. I will wait and see if I get a response.

I've also posted on Honest John, but only posted a summary with a link to this site. I won't mind if they delete the thread because of that, but I only want to maintain a couple of threads at the most given how much time this is currently taking up. It's all good though if it gets NA sorted out!
