How did you manage 2% on that account? Their website shows it at 1.4% gross.

The account currently on offer is shown as Issue 4. It and issues 1-3 are paying 1.4%. Looking at accounts not currently on offer, there was an Issue 5 which is paying 2%.

I think that issue 5 was an ISA.

    There is a ...
Save to Buy - Issue 2
    Up to 2.00% gross p.a./AER

After all these years however, the organisation who are going to be the beneficiaries of my gains from the North East have informed me that Faster Payments take the weekend off and don't start work again until Monday morning. I never realised that before, what a dummy.

I`ve just done a FP from Halifax to Santander and back agian in less than ten minutes.

I've noticed a potential problem when transferring this Newcastle ISA to another provider. First off it has 13 alpha/numerics for its account number and the data fields in transfer forms contain room for just 8 digits. Secondly, there appears to be no sort code with these accounts.

Has anyone else noted this problem and overcome it?

This is the 'Not an ISA thread'

    But...

For Newcastle Savings accounts, I was told the sort code was 23-59-54.
The account number to use was 00000008 and your account no. (ABC 1234567 DEF) as the reference.

I was told it had to be this way, as they were not a bank.

    Excellent, thanks for that.

Yep, got that one too. Useful for any overspill from the better paying current accounts but sub-inflation nonetheless. So not a good place to keep much money in for any length of time.

I have moved a wad of mine into Betfair and a few bookies a couple of weeks back for some arbing. It's a lot harder going than it was a few years ago but the return still beats just about anything else I can think of. Unfortunately (or fortunately, for me, as competition is sparse) it is only an option if you have shedloads of time and experience, which I happen to have.
