The e mail states clearly that a BACS payment can only be made for the initial deposit only. So those intending to top up by BACS may need to think again.
I sent £10 by BACS on 15th before it was pulled- (inital deposit by DD not yet taken) as a test and it got there OK - and was assured (twice now 'cos people on here keep sowing doubts) that sending additional funds by BACS was OK

Anybody sent a BACS since the 15th that has been processed OK?

I'm with Lloyds and I was told that my online payment would take three to four working days to reach NBS.

I made the first payment on Monday, so I'll be checking my NBS account on-line over the next few days to see when the money arrives.....

    I'll let you know :D

Just an update - my initial funding has arrived today into my NBS Bond.

I did a top-up by online transfer (bacs) on Tuesday, so all being well, that should appear on Monday.....

Blimey! That is a whopping 5 days! And these bankers think this is the 21st century banking!

Do you by any chance remember what time you did the top-up? Was it after, say, 17.30? Some banks will process the BACS transfer the following day if done after a certain time.

And does anyone know how long does a transfer from Halifax to NBS take? I need to put my initial deposit in but I can't do that until next Tuesday.

    Thanks

Here's my situation: My Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reward account just matured and I have my funds sitting in there waiting. There's about £24k in total. (funny story - they miscalculated the interest as 0.5% instead of 6.25% and I have to wait another week for them to pay that now, and they also lost my entire Regular Saver funds of £6,305 in mid-transfer, but now after 2 days they think they may have found it!)

Amyway, what would be the best way to get this money into both my NBS 5 year Bond and 5 year ISA? I can get a cashiers cheque (or cheques) from Halifax tomorrow morning from my local branch. I can then then either pay this into my HSBC current account and send a personal cheque from there to NBS. Or I could do a Fast Payment from HSBC having paid in the cashiers cheque. Or I could get the cashiers cheque and send it straight to NBS (but I suspect it won't have the correct payee details on it for NBS to process). Or I could bypass HSBC and send a Faster Payment transfer top NBS. However it's capped at £15k, so I would need to do one for my ISA and two for my Bond. Any thoughts?

Nope, it was before lunch. But if you don't count the first day, then that's 4 working days.... I'll just be happy to see it has arrived

  • How can we top up our initial D/D, before 24th July, if we don't have an account number yet? I have a reference number for my application. Is that sufficient to transfer money to?

As was previously posted, I telephoned Newcastle and they were really friendly. Confirmed the sort code as 23 59 54 and account number 00000008 for BACS transfer and you just use the reference number you were given when opening the account which links the account to you.

I did 2 BACs transfers last night, 1 from Smile and 1 from Nationwide. Money gone out of my accounts but will wait and see if they show up in the Newcastle account, which I was assured they would.

I am sure the above sort code and account number also relates to the ISA Bond as my sister had been given the same information for her ISA.

That's exactly what I did (on the advice of NBS). Just waiting for the payment to arrive.
