So open an online saver and put £1 in . (2.5% if you want to put more)

Problem - I presume when I fill in the application form for an online/ e-saver, I will be asked for my account number as an existing customer.
The only number I have at the moment is the application reference number - 9********
I'll have to wait until they send me my account details in the post with the account number.

As has been said before, you can ring up and ask for your account number.

By the way, on the subject of being able to see the account on-line, would this enable you to do anything, e.g. give notice of a withdrawal, or is it just a question of being able to count one's money?

You can transfer money from your other Newcastle a/cs to the Bond and you can also see the balance of your Bond. It takes a day or two for them to update the balance of your bond.

Assume so - haven't got my acc no yet, but will open an on-line saver as soon as I do ( I like to see all is as expected too). As an existing acc holder that I think should be a virtually instant process.

    Thanks for that.
I rang them, obtained my account number and have now opened an Online Saver Account.
Just have to wait for the ID to be sent now, then I can login and view my bond money.
As I said before, I do like to be able to see my savings.

I presume the account number was different to the reference number then?

I just received the confirmation of the DD setup - is the new account number shown under "Reference" after "INV DD" on this letter?

    Thanks.

The account number will be three letters, followed by 7 numbers then the first three letters of your surname.

Assuming you chosed to credit your yearly interest back to the account and assuming you won't be withdrawing any money throughout the 5 year term, a £39,000 investment will keep you under £50,000 until maturity. This is based on gross interest and an investment date of approx 8/7/09

This will be irrelevant if the government decides to raise the deposit protection limit.
