I have never had such bad service from anyone! We had ordered a Hoover from John Lewis (very reputable company) but they seem to use My Hermes to deliver. The courier had tried to deliver 3 times over a week, during the middle of the day, and hadleft cards saying that they would try again. When we called the number on the card after have a rude note through our door about the fact that we were never in, and did we even want our Hoover because she had been trying to deliver it for three weeks, (!) we were greeted with verbal abuse on the phone from a woman we had never met!
She told us that it was unacceptable that we had waited that long to call her back, she had wasted petrol in her car coming out to us and, when my husband pointed out that he didn't like being spoken to this way she tried to hang up. Unfortunately she failed and my husband had to listen as she ranted on the end of the line that we were effing lazy t**ts (amongst other things) and then she preceded to describe how she was going to damage our Hoover to serve us right! This is not what you expect when you order something from John Lewis. They need to disassociate themselves from this company at once! Needless to say we were absolutely disgusted.

Used MyHermes once. Took a week to collect, then the lost the item.

    Enough said
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D
  • I have bought and sold alot on ebay over the last 18 months and I have got to say that on the 30 or so times I've used them, Hermes has been far more reliable and have offered a far better service at my end than any other courier I have used.

I have even used them to collect from 6 ebay sellers so far who either charged too much for postage or simply wouldn't risk posting items - I have not been let down.

They pickup when agreed and have always attempted to deliver within the advertised timescales and delivery periods.

What I would say though is that if you do decide to use this service for a delivery - make sure the person receiving the item knows they will have to stay in all day or get them to deliver to their work address - its solves the 8am to 8pm problem!!!

Is there any reason why you didn't contact the courier after the 1st card was left to save them wasting their time?

I hope John Lewis as a reputable compay made you aware that your delivery would be anytime between 8am-6pm unless the courier offered morning 8am-1pm or afternoon 1pm-6pm so that can fall within the middle of the day, if they didn't they are not too reputable, if you didn't read the delivery T&C's that's your fault.

I'm astounded that you feel badly done to, you should have contacted after the 1st card.

I have had more than my fair share of difficult customers in 11 years working for Hermes, carrying large items such as hoovers(taking up much of the earning space in my car)my space as a self employed courier.

I wonder if you realise or care that Hermes only pay couriers 45p - 50p even if they call back 3 times.

If I was your courier your complaint would be I left one card and returned your item because you didn't contact me.
  • It's fine defending your employer. I've had 3 deliveries through My Hermes, the first was fine. I wasn't in and it was left with a neighbour. The second was returned as it have been kicked around so much it had shattered (quite a hard heat for a hardened motor housing) and the last one was terrible.

The details on the "Sorry I missed you" card were "By Bin, Down side of house" this also means "in full view of street". Needless to say when i got home this evening there was nothing there. It's the delivery equivalent of dumping it in the middle of a field and hoping you stumble by it.
  • fredge2k, SADIE isn't employed by Hermes UK. Hermes courier partners are instructed by Hermes that they may leave a parcel any place on your premises they deem suitable. It's not up to Hermes, and many couriers operating on behalf of many different companies expect you to be in when you order something. So a courier may decide that if you can't be bothered they can't either. Also a recycling bin is often deemed an acceptable safe place. I know this because I'm friends with a Hermes courier who is constantly being annoyed by people who can't fulfil their end of the bargain. Being on premises between 8am and 6pm.

Hermes offer a cheap price to companies, who then pass it on to the customer as either free or reasonable. A lot of couriers only receive 45p-55p some get more, the deal is you order and will be home from 8am-6pm, we are asked to leave a card to alert you to the fact you have a parcel(sometimes the customers really don't know when it's coming} amazing with tracking but some companies don't have up to the minute tracking.

Unfortunately some customers take the mickey and expect a super service(timings to suit their working hours)and try to push it, it's not surprising some couriers get fed up and drop parcels in unsafe places. I go the other way and refuse all requests from clients and customers to dump in bins etc. asked often. I send them back, if the customer hasn't read the delivery T and C's that's their fault.

Generally the damage to parcels are prior to the courier receipt and most have to repair before delivering and then it's time consuming for us while customers check them over.

As OTB stated I am self employed so no need to support Hermes.
  • Can I point out that it wasn't a recycling bin as I don't have those, it was a regular black refuse bin. Also it wasn't left in it, it was left next to it in full view of the street.

How anyone can think that's a safe or secure place to leave someone's package I really don't know. I don't have a front garden so my bin was next to my front bay windows on the pavement at the time as it was a collection day.

I'm not defending being out but when stuff is bought on ebay I often can't specifiy a delivery date when I know I'll be around, especially as I'm a shift worker. If I order directly from a supplier I always pay to have stuff delivered on a specific date when I can so I know it will be received by me.

On my doorstep was a Hermes card saying 'sorry I missed you, posted through bedroom window' signed Karen and dated 29/6. No other information.

There is no parcel in the bedroom and it would be a damned silly place to put a parcel anyway.

I can find no way of contacting Hermes without a tracking number which I don't have as I have no idea what the parcel is, who ordered it or who sent it.

How can I get in touch with Hermes. Can anyone tell me? There contact site is just a machine that doesn't understand this complaint.

Don't quite understand you here. What is 'my end of the bargain' and how did I make it and do I take a day off work to fulfill this bargain?

Will you ask your vexed friend how I can get in touch with Hermes please. I have a Hermes card, by the way, saying posted 'through bedroom window' signed Karen. No parcel, no other information.

But, if as you say, Karen is entitled to leave it anywhere, including the dustbin, then... who knows...
