Do not stay at Travelodge!

I'd agree with you if we're talking advance bookings. But if you don't have a reservation, just see how far £100 will actually get you in central London on the night. I doubt you'd get anything better than a Travelodge, and it could be a lot worse.
but thats because of a lack research!0 -

You're missing the point. You can only do the research if you're booking in advance.
If you're suddenly faced with finding a room because a meeting lasted longer than intended or for some other unavoidable cause, you're not in a position to do any research and you take what's available - that normally means high prices. Think Ryanair.0 -
I stayed at Chester Northop Travelodge (unclean, horrible Little Chef).
I also stayed several times at Travelodge on Route 66, Bury. Absolutely awful.
Rooms not soundproofed, unclean again, rooms too hot, slippery bath (mother fell over and hurt herself) - complained to reception and apparently their policy is not to put mats in because it makes the chances of slipping greater!!! Yeah right.
I'm done with Travelodge now. It seems they had a boom and built tons of Travelodges over the country and think that is all they ever need to do. No upkeep, refurbishing apparently.
Might I just add I stayed at the Red Hall Hotel near Ramsbottom - and it was the best hotel I have stayed at (in this country)! I got a room on a good deal for two people. Staff, cleanliness, food, etc etc - room decor - the bed is so comfortable. Nothing to fault!! For an extra fifteen quid split between two people) I would rather stay there.
Won't be going back to Travelodge.DEBT-FREE AS OF JULY 2012!!!
£8639.00 paid off since Sept 2009 :T

Stayed on a very cheap deal - to go to Legoland. Noisy (full of families of course!!) - my real complaint is that my sister (with a couple of young kids) stayed in a family room and said when she pulled out the fold-up bed there was bits of old food still left in it - UGH!!!DEBT-FREE AS OF JULY 2012!!!

I stayed at the travel lodge on the M4 near to Heathrow in October. First room had mould on the ceiling and the second room that they offered had mould growing outside the door. It was £20 for the night for 3 of us so guess got what I paid for. I wouldn`t want to be paying full price.0

Just returned from 2 nights Travelodge Windsor booked at £9 a night. Couldnt fault it! Spotlessly clean, friendly staff, very warm, great location, excellent value!0

we have only ever had a problem once which a complaint followed and they were very accommodating and helpful - mind you I did go to the top!0

but thats because of a lack research!
Have stayed here before, near Holborn:

Price includes a rather decent fry up.
It's basic, but recommended. Rooms on the back are very quiet for central London.0 -

That's where I last stayed and I thought it was fine.
No problems at all with the Little Chef and only 'problem' with the hotel was they didn't have any spare pillows.
That staff were friendly and helpful and the room and reception area were clean.
The car park was a bit scruffy though, as the bins were full and a fox or something has pulled the fast food containers out.0 -
I do use Travelodge a fair bit, and by and large they're OK if you can pick up a low price - particularly the newer ones. Some of the older ones are often in serious need of maintenance, though.
What really bothers me, though, is seeing specific references on Tripadvisor to bed bugs - including one guy who managed to take them home with him in his suitcase. This led, apparently, to the family having to destroy beds and a sofa to deal with the infestation. OK - it could be made up, but it doesn't look that way, and this is by no means the only reference to bed bugs.
Anyone had any direct experience?0
