Travel lodge - Drury lane, London

The room that I was allocated was deficient under the following points.
    • The room displayed a very shabby interior quality, I've stayed in smarter looking hostels.
    • The bedroom was cold (it was snowing in London that night) and the bedding did not come with a blanket. I complained about the temperature the following morning and was told by the staff at reception with a shrug that there was a problem on my floor.
    • There were only two pillows, with a third pillow within the wardrobe.
    • The bathroom was dirty with mould evident on the bottom of the shower curtain.
    • Stains were evident on the bathroom floor.
    • The bathroom did not have any heating, which considering that the flooring was tiled and that the bedroom was cold was uncomfortable to be in.
    • The lift lobby was tatty, with frayed carpets, the lifts inside were dirty with debris on the floor.
Whilst I appreciate that Travelodge is a budget hotel chain, the room cost me over £100 (without breakfast) and i would have expected at least a little better.

I have complained so lets see what response I recieve back.

I don't mean to be rude but why would anyone pay £100 for a Travelodge room?
Its not as if London is short of hotels....did you not try LateRooms, LastMinute, Holiday Inn, Premier Inn etc etc.
I would never ever pay more than £29 for a Travelodge room its just not worth a penny more than that.
  • I agree with wept: I would only ever get a sale room or perhaps a £29 room if absolutely necessary. I have always been very happy with what I got for that kind of money. Once you go over £29, there are many other and possibly better options.

we had to go to Hampshire at short notice recently due to a family bereavement and the only family room we could find was a travelodge. This cost us £60 per night not including breakfast. The room wasn't very big, the extra beds for the children hadn't been made up ready so we had to go and ask for bedding and make them up ourselves. There were only 2 pillows for 4 of us so we asked for more and got these.
The shower/bath mixer tap didn't work properly, it was either scalding hot or off. There was no cold on the tap at all. I tried to bath my 3 yr old and ended up getting cups of cold water from the sink to try and cool it down or I wouldn't have been able to wash him.
The room was scruffy, decoration was not good, it was incredibly hot in the room, the windows only opened about an inch so couldn't get much air in and the extractor fan didn't work in the bathroom.
We did mention these to the receptionist on leaving and she said she would look into it.
In future, if we are going to spend £60 per night, I will look for something better.
It would be ok if you were only paying £9, £12 or even £29 as I think this is all the rooms are worth.

I'd agree with you if we're talking advance bookings. But if you don't have a reservation, just see how far £100 will actually get you in central London on the night. I doubt you'd get anything better than a Travelodge, and it could be a lot worse.
  • we have just come back from xmas shopping, and for £9 in a family room, it was ideal,i remember it was quite noisy at the nightime, but i was a bit tipsy and extremely tired so drifted off regardless, it was very clean and the shower was fantastic, also, the staff on reception were very plesant.
It was 5 mins walk from moorgate tube,so all in all a great stay!

Have stayed in quite a few travelodges especially with the £9 deal. Only ever had one problem and reception changed our room and refunded the night's stay. Otherwise they have been fine and have stayed in some supposedly upmarket ones where you cant tell the difference between them and travelodge

I haven't had good experiences in Travelodges in the past and usually pay a bit extra for Premier Inn instead.

Recently though, I spent two nights in a Travelodge and it was actually pretty good.

The only drawback was they had no extra pillows and one isn't enough for me.

It needed updating in places but what can you expect for £20...
