I read that the op is meaning the central CS, not the hotel manager?

Can't say I've thought the toilets unclean though:confused:

Yes, I mean central CS. Sorry if that was not clear. None of us have stayed at Travelodge since the incident. If, hypothetically, they had sent a voucher for a complimentary night's stay like they did with Shiny.Side.Up it would have restored a lot of confidence. Unfortunately they decided on giving me the silent treatment so I'm returning the favour.

Ultimately I think the responses here show how sporadic they can be with customer service.

As for the toilets - yes - they look clean - but as this report states, that doesn't mean they are! And Travelodge seem to think E.coli isn't harmful:
Travelodge denied the bacteria, which included E-coli, was a risk for guests, and said it had never received a complaint about it.
So if nobody complains about it, then it isn't a problem?
A spokesman said a leading microbiologist had carried out an independent assessment of the Which? findings that showed the report's results would not present any health risk to customers.

He added: "We take room hygiene standards extremely seriously and have taken immediate action to remedy all of the issues raised by the Which? report."
It's not a health risk, which is why immediate action is being taken?! But they also claim there are no issues so what exactly is the immediate action all about? Bizarre :rotfl:

Could you post where the rest of that quote comes from? I don't mean to criticise you but it feels like a quote taken out of context. =/ For example, it could be easily cut from, say, a report into some meat that was provided to the company and then found to be infected, but it was never served to guests and was never in contact with any other foodstuffs, therefore meaning it was not a risk to guests?

I'm just making up hypothetical situations, but it would help to see the full quote, I think.

Again i've had Ok experiences with no problems too, but since the awful experience I haven't stayed at travelodge since as I can't risk that kind of stay again with young children.

    Becky

Rag31, I am curious as to how your stay impacted on young children? We are looking at a couple of Travelodge stays and also have young children.

Thanks if you get back here to read this.

    I don't mean to be a pedant (well, let's face it, I do. :P) but that report doesn't mention e-coli. :P

This one does and in any case if it was not present, TL would have strenuously denied its presence instead of claiming the levels of bacteria weren't a problem:

I use TL on a regular basis and have never had a problem that wasn`t sorted straight away by their staff, who are mostly friendly and helpful.

I don`t know about appalling behaviour of the staff but some of their "guests" behaviour leaves a lot to be desired.

We use TL about 3 or 4 times each year, as well as staying in 4 or 5 star hotels, we have never had a problem that hasn't been sorted straight away.

For visiting family they are perfect.
  • I have stayed at TL on many times over the years and have never had a problem.

On my latest stay (on Thursday night) I only have praise.

My Dad was taken in to hospital as an emergency, he was airlifted from our small local hospital to Glasgow. Glasgow is 21/2-3 hours from home.

By the time we knew what was happening and Dad was settled for the night it was the wee small hours, went to TL I normally stay at but it was fully booked. They offered to phone nearby hotels for me. I explained the siuation and they phoned a new TL nearer the hospital and booked me in.

On the previous stay (it was the TL in Stirling) I had a very important interview the next day. The receptionist obviously saw how nervous I was offered to put my hair up in a french pleat, gave me directions to nearby eateries and even menus for local takeaways which deliver to the TL.

I have stayed at more expensive hotels where everything seemed to be a bother for the staff.....they are lucky I didn't tell them thats what they get paid for!

So I would just like to say thank you TL!

The bacteria is a worry as I'm assuming it has been caused by using dirty cloths and not enough bleach. I've stayed in the lodges cited and they have all LOOKED clean. Not sure if anyone saw an undercover report a few years ago on an expensive chain that showed staff wiping out teacups with the same cloth that had been used in the bathroom. I always rinse out cups with boiling water first. This sort of shoddiness must be attributed to poor training and supervision.

The spokesperson did say they have taken action though, so maybe TL (and the other chains involved ) have to evidence improvement. Hopefully;)

As for the individual reports of excellent service at hotel level - if it is juxtaposed with some of the terrible service at that level it indicates marked inconsistencies of staff competence.
