It's not only 7 weeks is it? That means I only have 6 to get this finished and I still have about half to do....oh buggar!

Also got a Let's get Crafting mag...think it was a special as it had all the stuff to make some cards with cross-stitch inserts - mini projects for Xmas cards for my family

I have decided to finish just ONE of my UFOs before Easter. I haven't worked on it for about 10 years, but I think I still have everything. The design is this:

    FBES-bg-42f543d58fa30
and have done two thirds of the bottom half, if that makes sense. The only problem is that the threads are in a bit of a muddle after 10 years in a bag, and when I added a little yesterday the door bell rang in the middle and I don't know exactly what I added (I usually cross the squares off, since EVERY square in the design is filled).

    Easter may be ambitious, actually!

Ceratainly looks like a toughie that one

Have you considered marking squares on your fabric (10x10 to match the chart)

I only recently started doing this on my big project, I use a water soluble marker that was recommended on here and honestly, it has made keeping count of difficult areas SOOO much easier (mine has a lot of blended colours)

I also colour different symbols on my chart before I stitch, so I am foloowing a coloured trail rather than hunting for the symbols.

If you already do this, then I apologise :o But I look forward to seeing a picture of your work. :)

When I've added a bit, I'll take a photo: I'm on a green bit underneath the second sunflower at the moment. There are about 15 different greens!

When I got it, I'd been doing cross stitch quite regularly and this is my second really difficult one - the other is my other UFO. It is a persian cat sitting on a kelim rug, done on aida but it's a very small one! Like this, every square is filled. All that remains to be done is the backstitch, but there is a lot of it. Link to the book it's from:

What I do first is enlarge the chart (nowadays I guess I'd scan it but 10-12 years ago I didn't have the equipment). I then filled in the different symbols in random but bright and very different colours. So I have a rather migraine-inducing chart, on several pages. I then use another colour (not too dark to see through) to block off every stitch as I do it. I like the idea of blocking the squares of ten both on the fabric and the chart, and I would do it another time. However, this chart doesn't have the markings on, it's just a mass of symbols (thanks, Ehrman), so there is a real chance I would get that wrong anyway.

It's a bit of a worry when I think that I have 6 UFOs in a box upstairs and I'll probably die of old age before they're done. And then there are the others I haven't started. I'm working in the conservatory at the moment, which is great light, but I think if I'm going to be serious about doing this hobby again, I need a daylight lamp in the lounge, as I'm at work during the day!

I got to start a new design! Only because it's going to be a Christmas present and as *Louise* kindly pointed out, there's (less than) 7 weeks until Christmas! And most of December I'm going to be REALLY busy. So I planned to start stitching this Lizzie Kate 'Autumn' design on Sunday, but I had a few...mishaps.

DH wanted to take me out to lunch at this fab diner (it's the one that was in Sliding Doors), so we rode the motorbikes over to it and when we were sat waiting for our food, I got stung by a wasp! It managed to get trapped under my hair and went I felt something tickling my neck, I went to scratch it and the nasty little thing stung my finger. OMG did it hurt! It swelled up a bit and was sooo sore. I never realised just how much a sting hurts.

So then we were on our way home and I needed to get some petrol. The garage was really busy, so when I had finished filling up, I pushed the bike forward a bit so the car behind me could start filling up while I put on my gloves etc. The side stand must've got knocked as I pushed it forward because when I went to stand it up, it started falling on me! I shouted for DH to help and another man also came over to help stand the bike up again. As I was lifting/catching it, it managed to push my thumb backwards and now I had 2 bad hands!

Sunday evening was spent dosed up on Nurofen, with a cold pack on my thumb and me whinging that my sting hurt. Yesterday I was determined to stitch a bit, even though I was still sore. I got some done, but the 2 main colours (grass and the main body of the house) don't look quite right with the fabric. The picture on the chart uses the Gentle Art sampler threads and as they're quite expensive, I only have a few of those. But the DMC equivalent just doesn't look right. I'm not sure if I'm going to search the rest of my thread box for something that looks better, or bite the bullet and buy the sampler threads for those colours. For now, I'll carry on stitching the bits I can do and decide later.

Sorry for rambling on so much...:D
Hope some of you managed to get some stress free stitching time over the weekend.

Oooops, almost forgot to add the pic!
