I've been working on a rather old UFO-an MJ Hummel picture for my mum. Unfortunately, in the time it was set aside, it got a bit grubby somehow-kept in a carrier bag with the top open. The worst bit was a ring left showing where the hoop had been. I took it off the hoop and washed it carefully, but it didn't really come clean. As I'd done hardly anything, I hoped the marks might be covered by the design. I know. I should have got a piece of clean fabric and started again, but I wasn't sure how generous with thread the kit was...it covered most of the ring mark, but not all.

I've reached the point now where I have nothing to do but the backstitch and the white (I left that in case I had to do something drastic like dyeing the lot with tea), so I tried to clean it again. Warm water-no effect, but no harm either. Warm water plus a spot of handwashing liquid-ditto. Warm water plus a bit more liquid, and a bit more, and a bit more...ditto.

A spot of washing up liquid and a gentle rub...small difference. Finally I worked up to washing up liquid and a good scrub(!) and...I've got away with it. It's clean, undamaged, hasn't run, and is drying flat in a stack of towels.

Just need to share the "Whew>>>>>>>>>".:D

Well done! Stitching is sometimes not as delicate as we think.

That looks beautiful, and the contrasting mount is very striking. I think £31 wasn't too bad a price, it has been very well done x

    Hi all,

Just about to start my stitching for today!

bookadict - that AOY design is lovely. The frame and mount really make it special. Professional framing does cost a lot tho'. I've done a couple of these designs which remain, unframed in my drawer upstairs.

I remember doing two felicity wishes 8" x 6" designs for my daughter's bedroom and the guy wanted nearly £90 to frame them . He moved them towards the back of the counter, and I suddenly thought he wasn't going to give them back to me. Horrible moment. My DH framed them in the end. Give it a year or so and she probably won't want them up anymore anyway :rotfl:.

    Hi All

Sorry for delay - first chance I have had to get on computer since Friday - was away Saturday - down to the Dungeons in Edinburgh.

Still to start the babys sampler - needed more material - thought I had enough. Should be here soon hopefully.

Everyones work looking great - hope all is well with you in your part of the world.

    Kind wishes

    sweetcarer ;)

  • Hi all,

Thank you for your kind comments about my AOY design.

The hardest part wasn't motivating myself to do the backstitch but selecting the right mount and frame. Initally he chose a contrasting blue mount and I was like nah - makes it look too dark and finally we settled on the sandy one.

I'm pleased with the result and can't wait for my mum to open it up on Christmas Day, I think there will be a few tears! Then the cost will be worth it!

I need to crack on with the AOY Holiday Train - just got the back stitch to do. I must post a picture on it.

    Keep up the good work.
