  • ive tried adding a couple of questions to my previsou post, but the edit button apears to not be working for me.

After reading the other posts i noticed a few of you use this type of lap tray (it appears newbies cant post links), im on about the plastic ones that look like white pluming pipes,i'm just wondering where is the best place to buy? i recon being able to stitch without holding a hoop will make future projects much quicker (and ease a aching hand).

Also i was just wondering where people had found the best prices aida, ive decided to stop getting kits (unless there cheep of course :p) and start buying threads, fabric, and either free online patterns or the ones from my mums pattern books (i just think the price of kits in stores nowadays combared to when i started stiching is ridiculous).

Is this what you mean? - I have this one:

You can get a larger one as well

I am a total convert, it makes things so much easier and is kinder on my right wrist as well, as it has less work to do now that I can use both hands for stitching.

I went back to the hoop the other day for a small Christmas project I am working on, and I don't like it anymore!:rotfl:

Yes I love mine too although I don't use the sitting lap frame. I clip mine into a floor stand.

One or two words of warning - On a large piece you can move the work around but if you put the clamps over stitched areas you will squash your stitches flat. It is easily fixed by washing the work afterwards and the stitches will pop back up again like new. It can be a problem though if your thread or fabric is not washable. Also clamping on top of beads will break them ( ask me how I know this )

Also if you use dark fabrics, try and make sure that the whole design will fit inside the frame without repositioning. On some brands the fabric is dyed after weaving and the clamps will rearrange the weave slightly producing horrid little white marks where the undyed thread shows.

Nothing you can do will fix that other than colouring in the spots or stitching over them. I stitch on black regularly so I make sure I use Zweigart or another premium brand to avoid this.

Yes louise thats exactly what i was on about (tho i'll probably go for the bigger one), tho does seem a waste that i have 4 hoops and only one gets used often. If find one cheap enough and i get on well with it i'll let my mam try it out and see if she wants on for xmas, she cant hold my largest hoop with out her authritis playing up.

    Afternoon everyone,

Well I'm off to Ally Pally with Mum tomorrow. Have been the last two years and it's really great, but obviously very tempting lol.

I have a list of DMC threads that I need to finish my Santas Clothes kit. I bought it at the show 2 years ago and only started it recently. It's on evenweave (first time I've used it) and not very big, but I don't have very many DMC colours in my stash. I will post update pictures when I can.

spottybutterfly - I know what you mean about younger x-stitchers. I've been stitching since I bought my first home when I was 21. None of my friends stitch, only my Mum. But now I'm the ripe old age of 40 I've found one of the school mums is a stitcher (although she does long stitch and also preprinted kits - not a fan of those myself, but each to their own).

Hoping to do some more stitching tonight - tiredness permitting (I'm a gardener and was digging out tree stumps today). Wish I could make my living x-stitching........

An alternative are Elbesee Easy Clip frames. http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ran997-0.html
I have one that is about 15 x 12 but found it too 'square' to be comfortable to use so I also bought one that is 18 x 9 and its much better for me.
When I stitch I have a folding table in front of me with my chart on and I rest the frame on the edge of that so its not being held all the time.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

Have a great time - this is the first year I'm not going for many years but haven't unpacked the stuff I bought there last year so I'm deliberately avoiding it this year

    Rather regretting it now.

    Hi All

    Here is my update.

    http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac117/sweetcarer/Week8.jpg

Had to unpick the pick stitching as I used the wrong colour - purple. Mistook wee stars for asterixses.

Hope all is getting on well with their UFOs.

    Kind wishes
