^^I do kits as well, I get them as gifts now and then.
Most of my charts come from X Stitch magazines though, which is why it's handy for me to have a thread stashCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Hi everyone!
I am just getting into my stitching by making a few smaller pieces to use as card topped for my handcrafted cards.
I'd really like to get more into it and start with a detailed piece but I really don't know what to go for.
I really like some of the heaven and earth ones but I'm a little worried I would get bored half way through. I've seen the quick stitch ones but I'm not convinced they'd be that quick with all that detail!
I have no problem with doing back stitches (I know some people hate that bit) but I am mildly colour blind which means I cannot see subtle changes in shade very well so something with a lot of greens, for example, would not be any good for me...
If anyone could possibly suggest something for me then that would be excellent!

Have you downloaded some of the HAED freebies? You can try them out without committing yourself to something big.
Otherwise what sort of subjects are you interested in?0 -

want to buy something really specail but im not sure what lol
It is very rare for me to buy kits but that is mostly because I don't use aida and this seems to be the default fabric for most. I also like to use some of the exotic threads and metallics and I very rarely stitch as charted..... I have been known to buy a kit if that is the only way to get the chart and give all the kit contents but the chart to the charity shop.
This makes kits poor value for me so I buy charts. I have a huge collection of threads, mostly ordered from US websites where they are significantly cheaper. It's taken a while to build up the collection but it is now embarrassingly large!
My current favourite is www.123stitch.com. The owner is very helpful and will generally order in anything you want that she doesn;t have. Very quick service too.0 -
Hi Everyone
I was quite merrily stitching away tonight on my floral alphabet and noticed I was running low on the colour I was using (each flower is an individual kit that I am putting together into one). Thought that was odd. Then I looked at my pattern more closely. I had mistook an asterix for a star. Totally the wrong colour. So now will have to unpick that colour - get the sellotape out to take away the fluffy wee bits of fibre - and check my colour box to see if I have extra of that colour. Think I will not have a full one done for my update at weekend.
Oh well onwards and upwards - silly old me
Hope everyone is getting on ok with their stitching.
Kind wishes

I've had another excellent experience with Across Town Stitching - I ordered late on Sunday night and it was through my letterbox on Tuesday morning. Fantastic service.
I only wish they would improve their website, it looks terribly amateurish and I wouldn't have bought from them in a million years if it hadn't been for positive recommendations in here. Shame.0 -
Hello everyone,
I've just sat and read this entire thread and its wonderful to see the amount of progress everyone has made. Needless to say it has motivated me into finishing some of my neglected UFO's (although not nearly as many as some people)
I also brought one of those pens that are removed by cold water which are fantatic and has speeded up my stitching. Did anyone find the fine-tip prone to breaking? or was it my heavy handedness. I might try a felt-tip style one. I resulted into opening the pen up and using a bamboo stick to draw the remaining lines on :rotfl:
1. German Shepherd Puppy
Started 4 years ago
Just under 1/4 of this is done, the colours are so similar that I got frustrated with the amount of mistakes I was making.
2. Tatty Teddy Wedding Sampler
Started last year
Should have been finished last year as a gift, now its going to be an anniversary present.
3. Butterfly Forest
Started early this year
Only picked this back up recently after leaving it set up ready on a frame for months.

Hi Maria. I've only bought kits as it was easier for me (not having a stash of threads or aida). However both HAED that I am looking at are chart only so it looks like my next projects will be charts. Will cost me a lot on threads though I'm guessing!
Hi sp0z, kevie192 and lelc, good luck with the UFOs. Butterfly forest looks great, I like it a lot!
Kevie192, I'm sorely tempted to try Heaven and Earth QS Rose next. I'm not convinced it will be quick either though:rotfl::xmastree:What a splendid idea, this Christmas sounds fun. I fully endorse it, let's try it at once!:xmastree:0 -
Hey fellow cross stitchers.
This thread made me wanna post, i didnt realise there was so many of us younger x stichers, im 25 and the only other person i know who stitches is my mum.
Im doing quite well with kits at the moment theres only 2 in my stash, tho atm im technically doing a tapestry (first and last- hate using the wool it catches loads) its basically loads of half cross stiches, its a Lowry design by boothby threads, found it less than half price online and thought *pfft how hard will that be- seems like half the work * and i love Lowery's paintings so i had to buy it.
However i also have loads of cards, jewellery and other stuff to make, but im ignoving that till the tapestry is done (or christmas is so close i have to make cards).
I'll have to find a camera, maybe a weekly post of my work will spur me on.0
