    Hi NMM and MrsM,

Wizard of Oz is a heaven and earth design too, by Scott Gustafson I think. It looks to be about 21x11" which isn't big to you guys but is scarily big to me!!!! I like the idea of sewing it for his birthday, I might just do that. Only thing is I probably should have started it last year to get it finished in time :rotfl:

    http://www.stitchdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Wizard_of_Oz.html

I've tried to put a link to it, hope it works!

MrsM, I remember now, it was you that started me looking at the Heaven and Earth designs because of Garnet LOL. She is beautiful! I'm tempted to buy one of the QS kits to start off (only because I'm too chicken to tackle a big one!). I like QS Rose, she is very pretty too. Maybe I could justify a quickstitch for me and the Wizard of OZ for hubby after all! Thanks I actually feel much better now :T
:xmastree:What a splendid idea, this Christmas sounds fun. I fully endorse it, let's try it at once!:xmastree:

Looking at it, it is a lovely design. I'm not a fan but it's the sort of picture my mum would love to bits.

My mum often buys me kits with the words "I'd really love this back when you've finished it...."

She can't cross stitch and just buys the kits because she likes the picture. Which is a pain, because a) I sometimes really DON'T like the picture but I have to do it anyway...and b) she has no idea how complicated a pattern is becuase she doesn't stitch herself.

    *sigh* :D

I've done three John Clayton designs for her in the past (the round landscape-y ones). One winter, one summer and one spring (spring is here : http://www.flickr.com/photos/mk1971/2580108674/in/set-72157612051354910/ )

Sorry - can't work out how to get pictures in the thread - the Insert picture option wouldn't work for me)

One of my UFOs is another John Clayton autumn pattern. It's been in the bag for at least three years. Not started it yet though, I'm determined to get some of the others finished first.

Those polar bears are seriously cute! The shading really works well.

_party_ Happy Birthday Maria, hope you gets lots of good pressies from Hobbycraft. Must say I agree with Louise, you should be putting your feet up sewing while tea is made for you! Hope you have a fab day _party_
hey everyone, thanks for the birthday wishes, i agree with you but my brother who is also hubbys best friend rung him during the week and mentioned that he would be down today to see me and and was hinting at dinner so hubby said that we would cook, and he cant cook a roast, so what he ment was i would cook lol, so that made 7, then i felt a bit guilty because we always have people round for dinner and never invite mil and fil so asked them so that was 9 and then felt guilty that my other brother would think we were leaving him out so i asked him so that made 10!!!!
only got about 20 stitches done all day aswell

so anyway off we went to hobby craft and i spent an hour looking around, trying to spend my £60 birthday money and ended up spending £20 because i kept thinking that i could get it cheeper on line so that is what im going to do i did by a hoop (£1.75), some xmas embelishment(£3), make your own felt xmas stocking(£1.50) 5 little xmas pics for cards (£1 each) scissors(£5.50) and a storage thingy(£5)

sorry that is a reallllly long post

good luck mrs m see you back here soon xxxxxx

f OZ for hubby after all! Thanks I actually feel much better now :T

OMG That is bigger than my monster Moon over Stonehenge!! It's only smaller in size because it is over one on 25ct rather than the over 2 on 28ct that I used.

I would have to really love it to stitch something that big for someone. MoS came scarily close to being a UFO and I was really motivated.

Sorry its late - chill time before bed.

Happy birthday Maria - hope you had a lovely day - everyone is right you should be doing the relaxing.

Misty so sorry to hear about your break up - but your stitch is looking stunning.

Doesn't feel like there is enough hours in the day to stitch. Would love to do more.

Better head to bed soon - up at 5.30 to collect hubby from work - a little nap then off to work myself for 8.00.

    Keep well everyone and goodnight.

    Kind wishes

    sweetcarer ;)

    :mad::mad::mad: In a Victor Meldrew style 'I don't bl00dy belieeeeve it!!'

Wrote a long post and when I hit submit it said I wasn't logged in!

    Anyway, i'll try again

    Simac.
    Polar bears are looking great!
As for your dilemma....the design *looks* nice but I couldn't stitch a piece that big unless I really liked it. Could hubby learn to stitch?
Or I would tell him he has to pay for the chart, threads and material and you will stitch it as and when you feel like it and he isn't to nag AT ALL about you getting it done :D

Louise. I'm like you, only usually buy kits I really like the look of. Though I went through my stash yesterday and looked at a couple of them and thought to myself 'Whatever possessed you to buy that?'
They aren't ugly or awful, just not kits I am into at the moment (they were bought years ago when I first got into cross stitching, that's my excuse)

    Mags.
Welcome! I love that spring design, its exactly the kind of thing I am liking at the moment. I keep looking at landscapes and flowery kits but that's all I can afford to do at the moment is look :D
Though I have lots of kits to keep me going for years so I can't complaiin really.

Maria. Totally agree that kits can be bought online cheaper than in shops if you have time to hunt out a bargain :D
My best deals have come from ebay recently. I spent my xmas money from my parents on kits and got 7 for about £52.

Misty. Your design is coming along nicely. Even though it's fiddly the backstitch looks really good.
When I am stitching I try to do the backstitch as it comes and not all at the end. Doesn't seem so bad that way.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
