I find the cheapest place to by DMC floss is in the USA(!). I was there earlier in the year and it was 0.34c against 70p in my local shop. About 1/3 of the price?! I have also bought off eBay for 65p (free postage)

Where abouts in the States did you find them? I am going over to see my in laws in November and looking to buy some floss when I am over. Never looked before as I lost my mojo but this forum has brought it back to life.

    Kind wishes

    sweetcarer ;)

My mum picks up DMC thread for me in Philadelphia usually, if she gets it in the sale it's 10c a skein.

I wouldn't pay more than 45p over here, and even then it would have to be cos it was an emergency lol. The accrosstownstitching company that was posted on here is going to be a favourite of mine for a while to come :D

    Afternoon all

Taking another break from the dreaded back stitch... :p
I have taken a pic so far -.... I normally use my own judgement to decide what backstitch I add (sometimes they add far too much and it looks messy) -but this time -every time I look at what I need to add -it is actually needed -it forms all the folds in the shawl, and the frills in her blouse
So from this:-(you might need to click to enlarge)

right ...back to some more back stitch

    Hi all,

On the subject of ages and I think I must be the oldest if I have to beat 38. I'm 51 (shock horror) soon.

Cheap DMC and ANCHOR threads. There used to be a company that you phoned amd instead of buying individual skeins, you would get ask for whatever number you wanted and it was wound on a numbered bobbin or in a large bundle if you wanted a lot of one shade. I never got round to doing it but one day I found a load of these in the charity shop and bought them - they were very good.

Ocemeer, your tablecloth is always inspiring me to finish my sampler, as I've also got a table cloth to look forward to. I like the colours you are using.

Sampler - still doing the outline stitch.

MRSMC, she is looking beautiful, the backstitch is adding a good finishing touch.
I know what you mean about only adding what backstitch you think it needs,I do the same. Likewise if I think a finished project needs a few more x's I'll add some more.

It was in a large Craft Shop, I forget the name, but they had loads of stuff (card making etc etc) with a rack of DMC in amongst it all.

I lost my mojo too after a very big project but then I found lovequilts and I've done more in the last year than ever! :D

Well the flowers are done.... now just all the swags which are in roumainian stitch?!!!

Angela, daft though it may seem , everyones cross stitch are driving me to finish the table cloth so I can do some of that - I have a double quilt to finish (lost the pattern key so hard) and want to start the flower panels for my bedroom so got alot of kick to get a shift on trying to finish the tablecloth.
My biggest bad habit is in the 'old ladies' (charity shop), its a gold mine for beautiful off cuts of fabulous fabric, which i buy (at 20p !) now just got to work out what I am going to do with it - would like to make some stuff for them to resell. (feel like an adopted daughter when I go in, so religiously vist them once a week).

So many projects so little time - have so far resisted buying any more but just had some quidco money in - which is my sewing fund so am actively browsing eek.

Ocemeer, I think my swags are in outline stitch, unless I'm dreaming. Well it begins with an 'O'. I've not heard of the stitch you mentioned for yours.

20p seems brilliant for the fabric. What kinds of things do you make? One of 'in the future' projects is a small quilted bag made from 3 squares, each square is a circle that envelopes a square. Do you know the one I mean? I really like them. I used some of them for dolls house quilts.

Thanks for the tip on the 30p DMC, I have just ordered 13 skeins for £5.50 ()

It's a bit of an amateur looking website, so hopefully it will arrive safely! :D
  • Please can I be the big sister of the group please? I'm 28 and it's nice to know that I'm not the only person in my 20's that does cross stitch. My other halfs mum does cross stitch too and recently gave me some charts and UFO's - argh that pile has grown!

I'm progressing slowly but surely with the holiday train, there's lots of fiddly bits now - which is annoying!!! I'll try nad post a picture at the weekend if the computer allows.

I've got a confession to make, I did start a new kit - AOYD No Dogs Allowed and I'm pleased to report it's finished and waiting to be taken to a framers! Again I'll post some pics
