    Thanks Lynzpower.

Forgot to mention I have sent a DPA Recorded Delivery to Monument yesterday. Enclosed a £10 cheque. I heard the 40 days limit for providing the info starts when they are paid. Can they hang it up by delaying cashing the cheque? Or can I count it from the day they sign for the letter?

    Anyone up on that part?

It's 40 days from the date the letter is seen to be delivered. Send it recorded delivery (costs a £1) and thus the 40 days starts the next day or day after (assuming it has been delivered) but this can be checked online.

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

My reading of it is 40 days from the day they received the letter otherwise what happens if they never cash the cheque!. They didn't actually cash my cheque until about 2 weeks after they had sent the statements.

Please offer some advice re: bank charges. I am at moment sorting out my DMP with my creditors. Do you think I should wait to see if it will be accepted before I go after the bank + credit card charges? Its just you guys have given me inspiration + I can't wait to get at them !

Thanks for the advice. I had hoped that it was from receipt of the letter. Time table intact then. Never thought of checking it on line. Will do this asap.

Duncan's mum - did you send your letter for a list of charges to your Halifax branch or to the Head Office. I sent my request for a list of charges to Head office - registered post on the 14th May and have still not heard from them. I know that they have 40 days but you heard back from them really quickly! Well done for not accepting their pitiful offer!

I now its only £35.00 but i sent a letter to Nat West. over a £35.00 charge they put on my account for going £2.00 over my limit. I sent a official letter editing it abit at the top explaining the reasons it happened, and i got a letter back telling me they were not wrong to charge me, as it was all my fault, but they had refunded my £35.00 as a show of good will. Sod them, i dont care who they blame as long as i got my £35.00 back.

If i had not come on this site, they would still be sat with my £35.00 in their share holders accounts.

    TSB look out your next.

Well the plot thickens, yesterday i tried to get some bank charges back for this month alone. they come to £136. Natwest said they would not refund a penny and if i didnt like it there were other banks out there!!!! Nice response i thought.

When i said that the charges were unfair and quoting what the OFT had said they had a rethink and offered me £38. I told natwest this morning that it was not good enough. Natwest has just phoned me and left a message say they have another offer.

I'm still going to refuse this one because i want to claim all my charges going back since jan 2001 (when i opened my account with them). What they are trying to do is offer me a sum of money along with a letter stating that this is a full and final settelment. Maybe this is a new trick of there's to catch people out so beware.

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
