Of course they will! They will do anything to discourage you from going further.

You set the timescales and if they haven't responded to the timescale you have given them, then move on to the next stage. Show them that you mean business.

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

Barclays didn't even respond to my first letter but I moved on to the LBA which resulted in a very swift offer of just under half of what I was seeking.

I am just about to file a claim against them.

I have it all planned... don't you worry
The problem is the banks will be planning too and they (and their friends in government) won't let this continue forever. My opinion is to hurry up and get as much through ASAP before something happens to stop it or all throws a spanner in the works. Just my £0.02

Edit: Yes it is time conusming a little but when you've done it the once, you have standardised letters you just need change and don't really have to think too hard about it you can kind of assembly-line them all. Doesn't really take much time, and for the same of a few £000 it could be quite a good hourly rate :D

although you set the time table if the bank askes for another couple of weeks to investigate your claim it is better if you can give them the time as IF ( and we all know it is a big IF ) it goes to court you can then show that you have been more than reasonable - even though the bank has not been reasonable :)

I had a letter from Abbey this morning. I sent a 'letter before action' last week. The letter this morning from the Abbey states that they are looking into the £60 charges I have claimed for and will get back to me within 4 weeks. Not sure if I should wait or take it to court next week. But if I do not take any action they will think I am just trying it on.

Don't give them any time. I bet they told you that your letter had been passed on to their legal tem as well? They seem to send this letter out to everyone to stall, they won't get back to you!

I have process the court file and now waiting on the next bit, will keep you posted.

Well I worked out that the halifax owe me £880 in charges and interest so my next letter will be posted off tomorrow. Im also going to looking into getting statements from my halifax visa account as I think that will be around the same amount.

    Thanks for your help everyone.

    Hi Lynz,

would it possible for you to cut and paste the first letter you sent to the bank either here or on CAG so we can see exactly what you've said and then better advise you. I don't think you've fouled up btw.

But if you have set a timetable or a deadline then you do really need to stick to it otherwise the bank will think you're just 'trying your luck'
