For anyone wanting to bite the bullet and run, I can highly recommend the following book:

Run Away From Fat by Dave Kuehls

I saw it in a bookshop many years ago and nearly passed out laughing at the title. Then I went back a few days later and bought it!

I haven't followed the programme in the book for a while (too busy studying at the moment) but it gives you a 90-day lead-in to running and is packed with lots of useful nutrition and exercise tips. There's also space to keep a running diary (I always do mine in pencil so that I can rub it out and start again later!).

Great for beginners and excellent for a giggle when you look at the cover!
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

Hey all......well, it was weigh-in last night after my two week holiday and I'm up 4 lbs.....booooohoooohoooo. Mind you, I was 6lb up when I came back so I lost 2lb in the meantime. Am feeling a tad demoralised right now so have been re-reading bits of the thread for re-motivating!

I too have one of those photos from 10/11 years ago....me in a little tie-dye swimsuit and sarong, tanned and with long sun-bleached hair on a deserted beach in Bali....all of 9st2lb and I too thought I was fat!!!!! I've put the photo out to inspire me (not that I'll get back to 9.2) and a male mate spotted it....conversation went like this
    "Corrr.....who'se THAT?"
    "Me"
    "No way - she's gorgeous"
    "Thanks"
There followed a stuttered apology as he realised what he'd said. Made me realise as I looked in the mirror just how much I'd "let myself go" over the years. It's sooooo easy to do as "life" gets in the way. Now I'd be delighted to be back to 10-11st, nevermind 9st2.

Still, there's no point whingeing about it and feeling sorry for myself - only one person can change and that's ME!

Have decided with fellow fat free wannabee buddy that we need to up our pathetic exercise levels and since my knees are shot and running is out of the question, we're starting with 20 mins of brisk walking a day and working up from there.

    xx

Thanks for all the support guys!

Apologies if this is too much information, but yesterday I ordered a decent sports bra from lessbounce.com and it was BOGOF so that was a bargain (believe me, it's a needed rather than wanted purchase!)

I am hoping this will force me to run, otherwise I will have wasted the money and I can't have that!

What a fabulous name - LOL. Will check them out too even if not for running purposes...but I have vague ambitions to rejoin a gym so this could be useful! Thanks.

The ones I got are called "shock absorbers" and are supposed to be very good, apparently. This is an area where prevention is better than cure so I thought it was worth investing in decent ones that came recommended though it hurt my wallet :( Surely much preferable to surgery later on anyway!

Saw the 10 Yrs Younger Bikini Special last night......admittedly a little extreme and I'm certainly not resorting to surgery, but I already look years younger than that lady (no grey hairs and only faint wrinkles...how lucky is that?) and I'm only a year younger than she was so if she can lose all that weight, so can I!!!!

OH is very impressed with the new motivated me and has said he'll join me in my quest....after the World Cup as he says there's no point quitting drinking before. Men.....bless.

I did it! Went for 25 min run at lunchtime (well half running half walking). I can really feel it in my legs now! Also ate a healthy lunch that I'd made a batch of on Tuesday.

Took measurements last night as these mean more to me than weight, and I will be monitoring these instead (there are certain clothes I want to fit into!)

Will have a break tomorrow and then the boyf is coming over on Sat, wonder if I could persuade him to do some weight bearing exercise (he cycles)?! A walk at least (though he claims walking doesn't "do anything", silly boy).

Well done Badgergal! That's really impressive!

I suggest that you print your post out and keep it on view so that you remember how good you felt after your first run. It should keep you motivated on "can't be bothered" days - although I'm sure you won't have many of them!

Definitely get your bf on side too - take him for a long uphill walk and see if he has the same opinion on Sunday! :rotfl:

    Hello all.

May I join in here for some motivation please? You are all so nice. :o

I am at my heaviest at this point in time, and am starting to bulge out of the clothes I have got, and can't afford to buy any more. My parents offer to buy me more clothes, but I feel like if I buy in a larger size it is like admitting I am comfortable with my size which I am not.

I want to lose 1.5 - 2 stone. I have already started to attempt to eat less of everything, which is how I lost weight once before.

I see that running is a good way to lose extra weight, but I have knee problems so I don't think it would be a good idea for me, but I am now going to start walking/cycling to and from work (2.5 miles each way.)

Thanks for listening (or reading, rather) :)
Sometimes I feel like a pelican. Whichever way I turn, I've still got an enormous bill in front of me.
