Today I, for some reason, ended up looking at some old photos.
There were quite a few of me from ten years ago looking way way too thin (and I thought I was fat at the time - ha!) I was shocked. My arms look like sticks.
Then there are some from about 6/7 years ago....oh my. Now I would be VERY happy to look like that again! I look tanned & fit with real muscle definition and everything! I felt like crying......however I did not, it has given me a mental kick up the ar5e though (if there can be such a thing!).
I want to look like that again!!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Can I join, *waves* I need motivating to lose a few pounds...and you guys seem to be doing well!
I have a boring job and through snacking to alleviate boredom have gone up to a 14 - I wouldn't mind so much really but I can't afford to buy all new clothes, I need to fit into the old ones that are 10-12!
So exercise needs to go on the agenda! Preferably something free. A colleague at work has suggested we go running at lunchtimes which I find a bit scary (I'm so unfit I may pass out) but will give a go.
I also like going to dance classes (lindy hop, jitterbug) as I'm sure the fast ones burn off lots of calories, but they can work out a bit expensive (£7 a time) so I often don't keep them up. Shame as they are exercise you don't realise you are doing!
I've replaced my fattening snacks in my drawer at work, with Snack A Jacks, though to be honest I don't know if they are any better! The local market is also doing fruit supercheap at the moment, so I have that on my desk too.
Am also making my own lunches for work, and attempting to grow my own salad leaves for later on in the year...0 -

Badgergal - don't be frightened to run! It really really is great exercise and definately keeps my beer belly at bay! I used to tell myself that I couldn't run and that I was rubbish at it. Now I am able to run 6 miles in one go - but I had to start off slow - a good few years back now. My advice is to start with a really easy programme....you could pick up a book from the library or something....as they advise that when you start running to do short manageable bursts i.e. run for a minute and then walk for thirty seconds and repeat etc for 10 minutes or whatever. It really really is a cheap but satisfying form of exercise. Is often worth giving yourself a target as well i.e. signing up for a 5k run a few months ahead so you have something to work for! You can do it!"Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0 -
Hi everyone, haven't been around for a bit... well done on the weight loss Minnie and ruyareece!
Kathfisch - that website was amazing, I knew that celebrity photos/models were airbrushed, but I didn't realise to what extent. I stopped buying women's magazines last year when I felt inferior every time I turned the page to see yet another 'perfect' model! I prefer to just not look at magazines now, plus I save myself some money and have less to recycle.
Currently me and OH have yukky colds, so have mostly been surviving off cereal, sandwiches and soup (and the odd bar of chocolate) over the last three days as neither of us has felt well enough to cook. OH's Mum offered to cook us something last night for 'sustenance', it turned out to be a fry-up.
Not to sound ungrateful, but it soooo wasn't what I wanted as my first meal to get back into normal eating, so I just picked at it, plus I've already explained to her several times that I'm dieting... Feel like everyone is trying to sabotage my diet at the moment, even though I know it's up to me what food I choose to put in my mouth! Whenever I visit my family, they will happily stuff themselves with biscuits and cakes in between meals, while I'm sitting there feeling jealous, trying to be happy with an apple (and failing), plus my Mum and sisters are all so slim. Sorry, I'm just in moan mode today, cos I'm feeling !!!!!!!
My next weigh in will be at the beginning of June and I'm really hoping I will have lost 3.5lbs to make my first stone. That should spur me on, so fingers crossed.0 -

Hi Badgergal. I am also a freebie exceriser and finding that walking whenever possible and dancing at home whenever I get some time alone have been the most successful so far.
Get a pedometer if you can (see if you can still get a free one via the Freebies board and look for the Kelloggs thread) as that really spurs you on.
I also have a set of handweights that I use when I can when just sitting around at home not doing much. Do some bicep curls and tricep work too to stave off the bingo wings! Cans of beans will do just as well as long as you do lots of reps (or filled 330ml coke bottles - sand or gravel or water or something!)
Good luck. Let us know how you go with the running. Don't be put off - you'll never know till you try and you never know, this time next year you could be entering a marathon and have the skinniest waist and flattest tummy imaginable!
And even if you aren't entering marathons, chances are you'll be back in a size 10/12 if you start running. :beer:Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
