Debt Free & Fat Free Wannabees??

Options
OK, I have been soooooooo bad at exercise the last two years or so. As well as not really having the money for a gym membership, I haven't really had the enthusiasm either. I'm not particularly overweight however I noticed this morning that things errrrrr........errr they ain't what they used to be in certain places put it that way!

In fact my actual words were "euw...that's awful..." :rotfl:

So, what ideas have we for DFW style exercise to work that butt!?

well to save my self money i quit the gym as that was costing me £37 a month, and ive taken up jogging on the streets when i get home 20 min circuit 3-4 times a week. I also walk up the stairs to my office which is on the 13th floor:eek:

On a sunday or saturday i run cross country and thats a 40 min circuit.

Theres plenty to do thats free for improving ur health and since ive taken up jogging on the streets ive been able to run further and faster than i used to be able to at the gym :j

  • OK, I know it ain't everybody's cup of tea but I love walking. Seriously love it.
I have a few friends who also like it - we go out on a Sunday (get cheap group tickets on the train) - it really clears my head.
Also I'm a Londoner and walk a lot in the city (unfortunately the air's not so fresh!) which saves loads on transport and is often just as quick. I walk fom my house to one job - takes about an hour on public transport and an hour 10 mins to walk.

It may not seem that walking is as beneficial as say running/cycling etc, more dynamic things - but I've read loads of stuff that says the opposite. I guess I walk quite fast but it definitely feels good to me and if I've managed to get out quite regularly I feel fit. Since I really got into it just over a year ago I've dropped a few pounds!

    And it's sooo cheap!

:D Made me chuckle! True true Lydia.42, true. However if I don't get certain bits of my anatomy sorted before long, bang goes that option as well! :rotfl:

Alex w, yes I like walking too. I try to fit in a walk at lunchtimes but it's not enough for me at the moment. However with the lighter evenings and hopefully soon-to-arrive warmer weather perhaps I can do some brisk walking in the evenings too.

I would love to be able to jog.....however I fear I look like a baby hippo on a pogo stick.

Have tried jogging too. It seems most unnatural - can only do it in the gym with TV/music to take my mind off the pain. Walking is much more civilised!

I know what you mean. I have tried jogging on treadmills......and have had limited success. But as soon as I attempt to jog on the actual street, my knees turn to rubber and my lung capacity becomes that of a deflated party balloon.

    James240...what am I doing wrong!?
