I'd love to do a DFW fat fighters motivation club. I too desperately need to lose weight - 5 stone to be precise. I've got to get down to at least 7 within the next year and I'm really finding it hard at the moment. I always look at myself and all I see is morbidly obesse everywhere. It's pretty disgusting
You guys motivate me so much, I hope that we could do something about weight too. I'm well up for something0 -
I have lost 7lbs so far through eating more healthily and cutting out alcohol, but I still have another 2 1/2 - 3 stone to lose. I must admit to being a fair weather only outdoor exerciser... if it's cold or raining I cop out. When the weather is good I cycle and skip (not at the same time...) Skipping ropes can be acquired for a couple of quid and a second hand bike for £50 or less?
When it's not good weather I have an exercise bike, Rosemary Conley exercise videos and a small weights set. We're living with a relative until we can sort our finances out and I get back to work, so there is no room to do the videos :wall: and my uncle has the exercise bike and weights in his loft until we move into our own place, so basically I haven't done exercise at all over the winter (apart from necessary walking!)
I really recommend the weights for toning arms, it is three pairs of (girls lightweight) dumbells on a stand from Argos. I started out on the lightest weights and progressed to the middle set and within eight weeks I was seeing definition and a hint of muscles! Can't wait to get all my exercise gear back when we move out... I miss it!
On one wedding forum, the girls are raving about Davina McCall and Charlie Brooks exercise DVD's, but I haven't tried them myself yet for the above reason. I'd also like to have a go at the New York City Ballet workout, have heard quite good reviews about it for toning up.
Good luck everyone with your weight loss!0 -

Please tell me you don't mean 7 stone?! Unless you are about 4ft 10'' then surely that is far too small!!!!!
Maybe I have misunderstood and I apologise if I have but you have worried me now Amosworks!
I'd like to get to 11 stone but since having my (absolutely scrummy gorgeous) little boy I don't seem to have the same metabolism as before! I do lots of walking but my big vice is chocolate.
I'm with you on the motivation club though matey, think it would be lovely to support each other cos there seems to be a lot of us that need to lose weight and save money!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member No.11.

Can I join this motivation club too please?? I chucked in my job nearly two years ago to go self employed....now business is booming (yipeee), but as a result I spend faaaar too long in my little office and the total lack of exercise means I've piled on two stone - and believe me I couldn't afford to in the first place!!!
How about a motivation/moneysaving thing.......don't get the bus and put the money in a jar...ditto for drinks you don't buy, chocolate (tough, I know) etc, etc, etc....at the end of it all we could hopefully be X amount lighter and that jar full of money can pay for some sexy new outfits!!!!
How about it???0 -

I have more stones to loose that I dare admit to anyone...:( and know how you feel, because I feel the same!
I think walking is definetly a great idea. I use to walk loads and use to loose weight without even really sticking to my Slimming World diet. Ever since I started studying again my schedule has been mad and have eaten loads of sandwiches at uni's cantine etc... so no real MSE or dieting there either...
Was talking to OH yesterday morning and now that weather is better will start walking again, and walking to uni whenever possible. In the evening got a phone call from my brother (who lives abroad), he lost 2 1/2 stones in 6 months, all through walking walking walking and a better diet (I think mainly giving up booze)!
Spoke to a friend of mine and am thinking of starting a dog walking business, need the cash (want to pay off my credit card debts) and obviously great incentive to walk!
I do think that for mutual support we should start a DFW / Fat Fighters thread!
What a way to start the week...now I'm really depressed, better avoid mirrors !0 -
I tend to drag my mates in with everything.. the dancing, aerobics and jogging!! You'll normally find someone just as keen as you and you tend to motivate each other!
TBH.. I have serious amounts to lose too Amos!!! I'm "just" under 20st!!! I haven't told anyone that apart from you lot!!!! Haha.. not only do I have big bones but big organs too!!!Serious.. I'm never gonna be slim I've got size 9 feet and hooge hands for a girlie!
Some times I really wonder what my OH sees in me as some days I really can't see it!!! I got so depressed a few months back I used to just cry when ever I was with him, then I realised it's just me being fat and lazy I need to actually get off my !!!!!! and do stuff!!! And in the end you feel so much better for it! I've set no targets, no dates, no figures unlike my finances. As I know I'll stickto a lifestyle change this way.
But so many people have commented that's Iv'e changed already these are the things that keep me going.. sad as it is I look forward to buying a pair of Jeans in "New Look" for a fiver instead of Evans for "£35" now that's much more MSE!!!!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

Hi
I also find it really hard to get motivated and the only time I've managed to stick to a diet is when I used to go to weight watchers.. however, I HATE giving someone a fiver just to weigh me so my mum and I have started our own little weight watchers and we both put a fiver in a jar once a week at our weigh in and we have decided we can have our money back each time we hit our goals (we have set these at 10%, so every time we lose 10% of our original body weight we get all our cash back) Its a surprisingly motivating way of saving and losing weight at the same time!!
Exercise-wise.. I would recommend setting yourself some circuit training. Pick 5 or 6 different exercises (sit ups, squats, skipping, jogging, steps etc) and do 20 seconds to start with and have a minute or 2 break inbetween. Just build up to a minute of each over time and then keep building. The exercise is varied so less boring and you can slam on some music really loud to keep you going.Student moneysaving club - member no. 6Uni Reading0 -
K9cuddles.......chin up girl....our OH's don't even notice.....what mine notices is when I start slobbing around in old trackie bottoms and baggy t-shirts and the "but I don't fit into anything else" bit doesn't wash with him. It's not the extra pounds that drive them away, it's the serious lack of self confidence in ourselves. He recently pointed out some fit young thing in a newspaper wearing some seriously sexy undies and said "you'd look good in that"! I just looked at him in undisguised horror, reached for the wine bottle and wanted to cry!! Nope....having hit my heaviest ever, it really is time to get my act together and do something...not for him, but for me!
devils_nose - I like your idea. A friend and thought we'd join to shame ourselves into sticking to it and not drowning our sorrows in wine, but maybe we could do your idea instead....nice one!0 -
Hi
I am a stone and a half overweight!! I have started watching what I eat and taking the dog out every day---doing about 3 to 4 miles. I only started 5 days ago and got weighed again today----lost a 1lb!!I really thought i would have shifted about 4lbs this week!!!
OOOOO well I will keep at it and think that in 7 weeks I will have lost half a stone----going to see Westlife on the 2nd May so aiming for half a stone by then!!!

Im on a health kick at the moment in preparation for my holiday, at the moment i cant fit into any of last years clothes and i cant afford a new wardrobe. Good motivation.
My mum and me bought a 5 day detox kit from boots (BOGOF) last month which i found really made me think about what i eat ( choccie, anything that goes ping in the microwave and more choccie, oh and alot more choccie )
As it was only 5 days i went out and bought healthy food etc and snacked on fruit when i craved sugar. I allowed myself 1 small piece of choccie each day as a treat ( couldnt go cold turkey ). I actually found the cravings stopped. Now i go days without wanting chocolate and when i do eat it i only want a little bit. Ive kept up the healthy eating and my trousers arnt quite as skintight.
I never weighed myself i just use the fit of my clothes to see how im going, the thought of looking at the scales and seeing ive only lost a pound would destroy my motivation!!!
The Detox idea isnt suitable for everyone though, my mum found out she shouldnt do it ( medical reasons ) so i'd make sure its something you can do first. Handy for me though i got her detox kit free!!0
