I have a weight thing too - it's not as bad as it was after little miss fairylights was born, but then I think I'll probably never have a really positive self-image. Maybe it's just that I have to have something to dislike about myself to save myself getting complacent. We have a rower in the conservatory which I use in fits and spurts - daily for a month then it gets left for a month, then I feel guilty again. Exercise just seems to be the last thing on my mind!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0

Annando - admitting it to myself wasn't easy either.....putting it in my signature was very hard, but if I can face that then maybe I'll finally do something about it!
You can add a signature by going to your profile and clicking on Edit signature on the left hand side. Mine was only enabled for basic editor which is why I couldn't figure out how to change the colours, so you need to change the setting to WISIWYG or something like that! :-)0 -
Freebird65 - I'll join in and update my signature shortly, but I'm setting smaller goals to work towards, otherwise it just seems too immense a task... so I would like to have lost another 7lbs by mid June. I don't want to put loads of pressure on myself, so I'm allowing 11 weeks in case some weeks I don't lose anything. My weight now is 14 1/2 stone and my final weight will be between 11 and 11 1/2 stone. Think this will be fine as I am 5' 9" and don't want to end up looking like a lollipop head woman!
A good motivator I also use is to measure myself once a month as well as using the scales as it confirms you have lost weight. As well as losing the 7lbs, I have also lost 1" from my hips and 1" from each thigh! Yeehaaaaa!
Amosworks - I agree with the others who have so far expressed concern... 7 stone is too light for a guy and why do you not want any muscle? Muscle burns more calories... and keeps the metabolism fired up. At his lightest my OH was 10 stone and 6' tall and he was as slim as (and used to look like) Rodney from Only Fools & Horses when it first started... they both looked like lanky sticks! :rotfl:0 -
I know its been said before, but you cant beat walking to help shed the pounds. I've got 2 dogs, so have to take at least 1 walk a day. When I got the first dog I lost half a stone in the first week as he was from rescue and I had to lead walk him for a few weeks to get him used to the area. Also, my local primary school has aerobic classes twice a week, at only £2 a session, much cheaper than a gym, I've found the people that go there arent as serious, (well fit and good at aerobics :rotfl: ) as the people you would meet at a more expensive gym, so its not so embarrassing when you first start. I was the original couch potato a few years back, but being diagnosed with high blood pressure at 42 (runs in the family unfortunately) made me realise I had to do something to get myself fitter.

Oh I'm sorry you guys it's just that I'm really sensitive about my weight and nobody really understands how important it is to slim down.
Most my friends are taller than I am, so I feel like the short dumpy one. I do like my social circle, they're great people and definitely the in crowd where we all hang around so I don't ever want to give that up. I don't see as much of them at the moment because I'm paying off debts and I don't want to spend loads of money (although a night out costs me < £5 usually as I don't drink/smoke/eat takeout etc.). I don't think 7 stone is dangerously underweight for me, I can't even see any ribs yet so I'm sure I can at least lose 3 stone before that will happen, and what's another 2 on top of that just to be safe?
I've not seen the machinist but that just sounds unnatural TBH. I'd rather just be really skinny than emaciated. I'm not really fussed about muscle too much until I've got no fat left at all then I'll probably be quite happy to have lots, but at the moment I look at muscle and see bulges where I want there to be nothing.
Regardless of how big or small everyone is and their starting positions, my goal is just to lose 5 stone and other people may have that goal even if they're different sizes to everyone else. I'd rather just focus on achieving my 5 stone goal than where I start from.
But thanks for all your concern but I'm ok I promise0 -
Hi guys :j
Check out the thread below:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1899550&postcount=843
The guys on this thread are really helpful, and post the passwords to the online slimming clubs each week, so people like us DFW's don't have to pay. :T
We could start our own club if you like, seeing as we all know each other.
I joined this other thread about 2 weeks ago, but only really got myself motivated this week. This month's Slimming World Mag has an amazing story of someone who kept a record of their progress in scrap book, to keep themselves motivated.......bit like us lot with our debts. Started my book this week, as i thought it was such a good idea.
I think we are all great at supporting each other with the DFW goals, we'd be great at this too.
Don't be embarrassed about how much you weigh, we are all doing the right thing in addressing the issue - similar to admitting to the mountain of debt we saw when the lightbulb shone brightly!!!!
Good Luck guys

Callisto....good plan of yours and I admit my total seems overwhelming, but I think I need to frighten myself for reality to sink in.....although not being able to get into any of my clothes and feeling like the Goodyear Blimp does that pretty well! I'm setting myself a target of 2lbs a week - if I lose more then great, but that amount should be easily manageable. I'm not setting myself an end target as everything will just seem toooooo overwhelming otherwise.0

Hi there. Tonight I will have the house to myself...OH is going out so I am going to set myself some little circuit training exercises as suggested (brilliant idea!) and that can be a start. I will endeavour to post back here when done.
Amosworks, I'm not judging you at all. It's up to you what you do with your own body. Personally I think 7stone for a 6ft guy is not going to be healthy in the slightest and you could damage your vital organs, possibly your skeleton too.
But if that is your goal that is your goal. I would be happier though if you took advice from someone in the medical field on how to achieve that goal without putting yourself at risk.
And for what it is worth, nobody on here after seeing the photos is going to agree with you about you being gross & obese. Absolutely no-one.....
So take care.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
