amosworks wrote:My OH has been obsessing about drinking orange juice in cartons claiming it's really healthy and the vitamin C is good. I know orange concentrate is quite acidic and a person gets enough vitamin C already without forcing a litre of OJ down their throat each day, so not sure if it's really that healthy to do? Any thoughts on this?
I'd be concerned about their teeth more than anything...that's a lot of sugar to be consuming. A think a litre of OJ a day is quite excessive. A couple of 200ml glasses is more than enough vitamin C per day. (Luckily the body excretes excessive vit c via urine).Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Well that's what I said, that the body will pass anything is has an excess of. Even something as "good" as vitamins can be poisonous if their quantity in the body is too great. I just wanted to check to get any further feedback as I'm a bit worried it's doing more harm than good. Thx xx0

drinking orange juice like that will be alot more healthy than drinking coke, diet coke etc etc, just make sure its PURE orange juice

Just another thought, Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron.
If your OH eats a lot of meat then they will be getting a lot of iron too....and too much iron in the body isn't good. It can make you feel tired and lethargic and has even been linked to serious diseases if too much is hanging around.
You may wish to google that last bit yourself but I definitely read that.
I was doing some research as I was diagnosed as anaemic the other week, (I'm veggie  ) and was really surprised to read that particular piece of information.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Welcome to the cuddle, rkh001!
It made me sad when I read your post - you seem really down. I'm glad you've joined us on here - we all have our ups and downs, and it's so much easier when you've got the support of the fab people on here.
May I be blunt here? You have a choice. You can either
a) bite the bullet, forget about feeling ashamed, and get moving; or
b) stay at home and continue to feel bad about yourself.
If you choose a), amazing things will start to happen. You'll realise that we don't actually live in a world of supermodels and that there are people of all shapes and sizes getting on with their lives. In public too! You'll find that when you start to exercise, your body releases endorphins which will make you feel happier. If you walk regularly, your weight will start to reduce.
If you do b), either nothing will happen, or you'll start to feel worse!
May I suggest something? Think like an Italian. They go on parade daily just to show the world how gorgeous they are. Treat your daily walk as "me time". Take a whole hour. During this hour, start by putting on something comfortable that you can walk in. Then do your hair - take time on this and make it look good. Put on some lipstick (boys can do this too!). Hide behind a pair of sunglasses as the weather's perking up - you'll feel anonymous that way too! Put on some jewellery. If you look good, you'll feel good. Then when you're good and ready, get out of that door and walk! Start with 10 minutes and add a couple of minutes a day.
Then come back here and tell us all about it! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -
Yeah Will I totally agree orange (pure) is better than cola, but still room temperature pure water is best of all IMHO
LookingAhead: I've known for a long time that too much iron in the blood eventually leads to disease and quite serious poisoning which is why I'm a big fan of "blood letting". I think in times of old, it was more normal for a person to be cut up and bleed a lot more in a rough and dangerous environment, but these days where everything is coated in bubblewrap and people were clothes and shoes, nobody really bleeds any more. Therefore, giving blood, is good because it not only helps people in need of blood but lowers the iron content in your body. Because they test iron level first there's no danger of it lowering them to unsafe levels.
I wasn't aware that vitamin C promoted iron absorption. I'm gonna have to look in to this in more details, so thanks for pointing that out
I've always actively avoided multivitamins that advertise they include iron, but these days I don't take them anyway I think it's quite unnatural to get your nutritional requirements in pill form and I've been stopping taking tablets for some years now, I stopped taking pain killers a decade agoIN the last year I've also stopped taking multivitamins and focused on nuts and seeds to get most of what I need, which seems a lot more healthy.

Wellcome, rkh001, Imelda, headcase, clairey em and fishface-69! Well done for joining in!
Minniespender and LookingAhead, thanks for your most encouraging posts!!! Where is that thanks button gone? – I do miss it.
LookingAhead, about the pedometer – a colleague at work used to have one. And by pure chance, discovered that when he was sitting comfortably on a bus or a train, the pedometer kept on ticking the steps.
Amos, LookingAhead and Willsnarf1983, I totally agree with you that orange juice and cola are bad for teeth. I actually banned both from my liquids intake and substituted it with hot water (sometimes with lemon). I know it can sound yak! but it is actually very nice (when not boiling hot). And oh, boy, your liver will love it in the mornings.
Ok, cuddlies, I am back to my study texts…. speak to you later…
Oh, yeah, one more thing: you know what I do now to fight the magical gravity forces when passing by shelves full of sweets and crisps in a shop? I think about you lot, and about all your efforts. Seems to help so far.:D0 -
Hello to all the new joiners! Welcome to the 'cuddle'
Went on a 30 minute walk along the canal yesterday, was a really nice sunny afternoon. I'm soooo looking forward to summer, it makes it much easier to get outside and active when the sun is shining!
I also weighed myself yesterday and have lost 2lbs in three weeks, so I'm really pleased.0 -
SoScrooge...yes I have noticed that the pedometer can click up a few more steps if I move from the waist i.e. leaning forward at my desk for my cup of tea or whatever.
But it helps with a rough estimate of steps and of course I don't wear it when I first get up in the morning when getting up/going for shower/walking around in dressing gown & having breakfast and all that kinda stuff so I am thinking it probably evens itself out. But I do take your point and thanks for mentioning it as not everyone will have noticed. :beer:Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Thank you to Looking Ahead and Minnie Spender for some fab words of advice and encouragement :T
Its so nice to have people on here to offer motivation when I'm feeling low, even if its just from reading answers to others' posts.
SoScrooge, I totally agree, I find myself thinking of everyone here when I'm tempted to stray - seems to do the trick!!Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs.
