 Never done this before but I need some outside support. I'm, or should I say we are in debt and have been for years and also had depression, running a business and a family. Sorted myself out a number of years ago and brought a big house with a big mortgage. I was earning the money to afford it. Anyway the depression came back and now we used up or savings and owe a ton of money and little in the way of work. Its been a slow downhill path and now at the bottom. I had a breakdown 4 months ago and now about there. On happy tablets... but the only person to sort this out is me. Anyway my wife works and have three children too. My wife supports me but wants to get stuff sorted and spend money on the house. I am old fashioned views with money and view debt as shame. We have never been this far and I'm very worried. I'm in a job where I can earn very good money and I beleive I can pull it off, but I would like support out there to help me through this over the next couple of months or years to pay everything off as well as losing weight. I want to be debt free and lose 5 stone. Its lonely when you know thats I the one thats caused the mess and i have to sort it out ASAP. Anyway, i have never been good a writing stuff and I hope you understand.

There's plenty of 'virtual' support available on these boards.

My first thought would be that you maybe shouldn't be rejecting your wife's support through these difficult times. Its important that you share your concerns and stresses with her to allow you both to move forward together with your family.

Becoming debt free and losing 5 stones are two massive tasks to set yourself. Both can only b achieved through small steps and persistance!

Perhaps posting an SOA thread would help people give advice on the financial side of your problem.

As for the losing weight issue - there's plenty of advice and support on this thread. Again, we really need to know the details of where the excess weight has come from to be able to help the most. Is it too much junk food / comfort eating / lack of exercise etc?

Also, who does the food shopping on your household?? - because if its your wife then you are definatly going to have to discuss the issue with her and have a chat about the changes you want to make to your diet.

Posting on here is a great first step - we're a friendly lot so stick around!

    Welcome to our cuddle!!!

    Hi headcase :) :hello:

I'd say forget the 5 stone, go for half a stone and take it in steps like that.
You'll have more motivation to lose half a stone, then onto the next half stone after that.

Good luck with everything and keep posting, i find it helps me alot.

    Morning all,

well after 3 weeks of being very good and trying really hard, and although weigh in day is not til monday, I couldn't resist and I've lost exactly 7lbs! yey!!! :j

Was hard though especially when I only lost a 1lb in the first week, but instead of getting all disheartened and giving up, which I do very easily, I thought about why I wanted to lose the weight and that I'm really unhappy as I am and that gave me the incentive to plough on. So last week I lost 4 lbs and this week it looks like I've lost 2 lbs, which isn't loads but it's really adding up!! although it is only saturday morning and weekends are usually my downfall, so do my best to stay on track. It's great to actually start seeing the results.

still another stone to go, but I'm going for it!

have a good fat free weekend all;)

Welcome headcase, :D i know it's hard to take the first step, but you've done it!!!the only way is up now, (well, not your weight, hopefully that will go down!)
clairey em, 7 lbs is a great acheivement! I completely agree with you about giving up easily and finding out why i wanted to lose weight. I have always pretended I don't look so big and that I can carry my weight as I'm tall etc etc. Also, because my oh is shall we say, portly, I don't feel huge beside him. It's always this time of year I feel it the most, when everyone is running around half naked and I feel that I cant wear the 'trendy' stuff. But. it's like this, it's noone elses fault that i am the way I am, and I'm going to have to sort it out myself, (unfortunately!) Well, thats my rant out of my system, hope everyone has a great (low calorie!) weekend!

Hello all...have read up to about page 18 & they eyes went googly so will work backwards later! Thought I'd join in if that's OK! Here a bit about me! 5ft nowt and a weeble but a diminishing weeble!! Want to loose lots but no specific goal! Have tried pretty much everything except stomach stapling!! Have realised that diets just dont work for me so have a GP referral where I go to see a FAB trainer via local authority every week and have been doing more excercise and went down a BMI point last month! Have had a few "lightbulb moments" over the last year and so far have drastically cut down on drinking (now the occasional can of G&T rather than daily alcohol consumption!), do more excercise & have started a budget to reduce my almost crippling debt which will take me about 7 years to shift! I'm 36, live on my own (happily) with four cats and work full time...Just thought I'd introduce myself. Looking forward to being able to give & receive support as we all battle our demons!

Haven't read the full thread so please forgive me if this has laready been covered...
I am no good at going for a walk on my own and non of my friends live nearby. OH hates walking and I have to be honest and say that I feel ashamed of walking on my own. I think that I look like a baby elephant and when the wind is blowing, the T-shirt is sticking on bulges that should not be there and the bottoms are hanging on with dear life to the bottom they are sitting on... you get the picture. Not a pretty site. So, I have become a couch potato, with loads of clothes in the wardrobe that would not fit unless I lose 2 st. Waddling up and down the stairs is becoming painful. Oh, just to mention that I am also waiting for knee operations. The consultant said that the knees take 7 times the body weight when going up and down the stairs so it is a good idea to lose some weight. He's telling me...
So, please inspire me to get out there and walk on my own. Have RC videos but have only one TV that OH likes to hog. Being DWF cannot afford another TV for the spare room. Do you think if I covered myself from top to bottom it would make it easier, or does any of you live in or around Tadley in Hampshire so that we could exercise together (no offence guys, but ladies only please)?

    Hello gorgeous cuddlies :)

Uh oh, I did a naughty last night :$ But I made up for it today by walking a mile. Still wish I hadn't because it meant I had to get tarted up to go outside and I really couldn't be arsed this morning

My OH has been obsessing about drinking orange juice in cartons claiming it's really healthy and the vitamin C is good. I know orange concentrate is quite acidic and a person gets enough vitamin C already without forcing a litre of OJ down their throat each day, so not sure if it's really that healthy to do? Any thoughts on this?

Hope everyone's doing well and managing to avoid all those damn ice cream vans with their tempting noises and colourful patterns and enticing slogans. Nghaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa the streets are like a warzone here, a battle of wills. I left my wallet at home when I went for my walk *phew*

Hello rkh001 & welcome. Also welcome to fishface69 & headcase! :hello:

rkh001: Do you get much time on your own in the house? If you do, I would suggest putting on your stereo and dancing around your living room!

Don't feel embarrassed or silly because who doesn't like dancing? We all do it whenever we can sneak in a quick boogie....even my boyfriend shimmies around the house on occasions and he's the most anti-nightclub/never seen him dance in public in my life person I've ever met!

Anyway if you do this for a small wee while you'll start to feel the endorphins kick in and then you'll be motivated naturally to carry on exercising and hopefully you'll want to march down that road not giving a stuff what anyone thinks!

And on that note: why should you give a stuff what anyone thinks? You are the one in control of your future weight & shape, you will be the one actually doing something about it. Don't let the fear of what other people might think, put you off.

Are you in a position where you could treat yourself to some new exercise gear? Marks & spencers do some nice long semi flared exercise pants (not udnerwear pants!! lol! ) and matching tops and you could get a tighter fitting top to go over the top of that.

Now don't recoil in horror at the thought of a tight fitting top if you say you have bulges. A loose fitting t-shirt is not the way to go if you do. Anything big and loose will just do nothing for you (or anyone come to think of it, not even Kate Moss frankly). Something well fitted in your size will be ultimately more stylish & flattering and if it goes with the rest of the outfit you'll feel really so much better about yourself I promise.

I hope you can find a walking partner (maybe ask about at work as well) but if you can't for the minute, please please just go out for 5 minutes on your own (obviously staying safe) and don't worry about anyone else. Why care about anyone who might judge you? you're not out to impress them, why would you wnat those sorts of people in your life?

Anyway, if you feel ok when you get back, then the next day go out for 6 minutes. And build up that way. Anything is better than sitting on the couch.

Oh & if you get a good half an hour on your own at home, I thoroughly recommend dancing around for as long as possible....make the most of it & have some fun! You can always keep a mental picture in your head of some fellow DFW/FFW up in Cambridgeshire doing exactly the same thing (curtains closed of course) and having a great time :D

As soon as you feel something become even the teeniest bit looser or you weigh yourself and you have lost even the teeniest bit of weight you'll feel good - you'll know that these bits of exercise are helping and you'll be super motivated to do some more. You'll be joining an exercise class before you know it! :T

Keep us posted....and keep asking for motivation if it helps, we're all here for you (and everyone).
