LookingAhead wrote:Kath - the Trinny & Susannah books are fantastic aren't they??! I love them! I have bought some clothes since reading the books which have really helped me out in "problem" areas and I know exactly what to avoid now and not waste money on, in the future. I would recommend their book "What Not To Wear - The Rules" to anyone...young or old, big or small. It's invaluable.
Will look out for that one, LA.
And on that theme, it was in the paper today that the Beeb are looking for contestants for the What Not To Wear in the following categories:
* Were you a teenage mum? Now feel you missed out on your education and your youth?
* Are you with a man at least 15 years younger than yourself?
* Are you a widow/widower who's ready to take your life in a new direction?
* Mother of the Bride this July or August and don't know what to wear?
Email is whatnottowear@bbc.co.uk if anyone is interested - if you can brave the 360 degree mirror, it would be a great MSE way to get some new clobber!LookingAhead wrote:Getting back to exercise...I fell asleep last night thinking I shoudl rejoin my local Jazzercise group. Has anyone ever been to one of these classes? They are good fun and great for all over body toning/shaping and cardio vascular work. Great if you like moving around to music! They also operate a Direct Debit scheme (or they did the last time I went) which works out VERY cheap. You pay something like £14 a month and you can go to as many classes as you want in the month.
I think dance is the way forward. I belong to a similar scheme - £20 a month for all the tap, ballet and theatre dance classes you can crowbar in. Definitely more fun than the treadmill, and you do feel it in your "problem" areas the next day! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

Do they have times when you can just swim without being in danger of dozens of kids landing on your head? Apart from walking, can anyone suggest some good exercise I can do....I have one totally knackered knee - an old hockey injury and years of trekking mean anything like running is out of the question....but welldone Lewby :T and good luck with your mission....very impressed!!
Yooooooohooooooooooo to you too, freebird!
Stick with the salmon - it's great for the skin and brain as well as being low in fat!
On the swimming question - have you checked out special sessions with your local pool? My local pool has adult-only sessions, women-only sessions and a host of aqua aerobic stylee classes. It might make it easier to get back into the "swim" of things! (Oh, I kill myself with my humour sometimes, I really do!)
Running should always be out of the question. It's extremely undignified, especially in high heels. (Lewby, I salute you on buying running shoes! Never thought of that!)
Have you considered weight-training? Muscle burns more calories than fat, so it's good to try. This is a fabulous site if you're just starting out, aimed at women and with a load of really good advice on the whole diet/exercise thing too. Krista, who runs the site (and no, I don't know her!) makes the whole thing seem like really good fun. Highly recommended.

God she was gorgeous....and NOT skinny at ALL.
If it was an all you can eat deal maybe they were trying to put people off their food?0 -
Hi all
I have been keeping an eye on this thread, and admittedly run away as soon as Atkins diet was mentioned. But since it is the place for mutual support/ exercise ideas… May I join this you too?
I am in debt and have 10 kg to lose (sorry I am not good at stones and pounds).
I totally agree with MinnieSpender on eating less and moving more.
Since last week I have been testing my will power – walking to and from the station, and saying NO-OOOOOOOOO to biscuits, crisps and choc bars (with some success).
First thing on my fat free list is a flatter stomach. Does anybody know any shortcuts?
PS: I only get to my laptop after 11pm, so I fear I will be here on my own most of the time.
Thank you.

Amos, Amos, Amos.

Welcome SoScrooge!!
I'm another who's on here late most nights (well, during the day as well :rotfl: ) so you're not alone!
I'd ideally like to lose about 10-15 kg so similar to you. Sometimes feel a bit of a fraud compared to those on here battling to lose many many stones but hey, we're all working for the same thing I guess.Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Welcome to the cuddle, SoScrooge! Don't worry about being on here late - you're never alone on here!
Flatter stomach? Crunches will help with developing the underlying muscle tone, as will core training (try yoga or Pilates for this). But sadly, nothing's going to shift or spot-train the flab! That's down to fat-busting!
I've mentioned this site before, but here's a link to Krista's abdominal training advice: http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displayarticle.php?aid=3
You sound like you're on the right lines, though. Swap those biscuits and crisps for apples (better class of crunch!) and stick with us! Loads of great ideas on here and it doesn't have to mean extreme dietary changes.
Have fun! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

It's all relative, isn't it? I'm aiming for about 14lbs (1 stone) initially and then I'll take it from there. It doesn't sound a lot but it's proving a toughie. I've upped my exercise to try to do this rather than obsessing about food (I eat well anyway) and have just embarked on a new weight training regime - it's worked in the past, although you tend to put ON weight initially and lose inches instead. That'll do me!
How did you get on with the FitDay site, Kath? Any use? What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

That'll be the pagan bit, eh?amosworks wrote:But man, while they're eating!?!!

Oh yes! It builds quite an appetite in the average diner, so I hear! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160
