  • I have already bought smaller plates. Unfortunately now I heap up instead of to the side.... :D Only kidding of course, good idea!
I fell off the bandwagon yesterday for the first time in a week...I had barramundi with hollandaise sauce and chips for lunch (someones farewell-do), bread and oil dip thing with my dinner and at least 5 bottles of beer  But at least I have been to the gym every day this week, I hope it counts for something!

    Hi all
I'm extremely pleased with myself after giving up smoking for three weeks, (early days I know but feel like I've never smoked, thanks to Allen Carr book.) in fact you could say I'm a new person because I feel like I've grown another belly in the last two weeks ! The big 40 is less than two years away, so I have decided to have a positive mid life crisis experience.
Finances and belly both need toning so I'm here for the duration and more. I really am crisp lover and love my tea with two sugars at least once an hour, but love salads and fruit so a bit of will power and hopefully I can do this.

LOL well if you're driving then you at least save on the alcohol calories.

Speaking of which - does anyone know what drinks are the best and worst to drink? I'd like to minimise calories on a night out without drawing attention to it! I don't like people knowing that im trying to cut down and so i dont really get any support in the 'real' world.

At a house party on thursday night i had 1 bottle archers aqua, 2 bottles of smirfof ice and a couple of glasses of punch. Im out in town tonight and would like to ruin the diet as little as possibe without looking a fool

Indeed...well done for packing in smoking - and just think of the money you save!!! I've cut down my sugar intake from 2 spoons to half so it can be done...slowly......

Crazyscientist.....things like archers and smirnoff ice have loads of sugar in them.....drink things like vodka & diet coke or vodka & slimline tonic....I find I can't "gulp" tonic either so it lasts much longer....wine actually has more calories than those but you could try having a small white wine and top it up with soda to make a spritzer.

I did something truly amazing today!!!!

Like you Jo, the big 40 is less than 2 years away, and I have today signed up to do The Great North Run!! It's a half marathon and it's on October 1st .... only 6 months away!

I have never run anything like this before ... in fact I don't run at all, but I'm now going to start training 3 times per week and am determined to do it.

I am raising money for Macmillan Cancer Relief as they massively helped my mother in law out for years before her partner died in January this year. They were fantastic so I'm going to run 13.1 (don't forget the 0.1) miles for them. I should lose some weight in the process!!! OMG what have I done!

Well done Lewby! Woo hoo! You're a bit of an inspiration, you are!

Over here at Spender Towers, it's all gone a bit Pete Tong. Have fallen off the Fatfree Wannabe wagon over the past few days, but it was all going so well today (until this evening!)

    * I walked to the post office (half an hour each way) to pick up a couple of parcels this morning. :A

    * Went to dance classes followed by half an hour in the gym doing some freeweights. :A

    * Had a coffee with fellow gym bunny (!) and suggested we train together a couple of times a week - which she agreed to - hurrah! I have a training buddy! :A

    * Came home. Meant to do the housework, but had a little lie down instead.

    * Finished the day with a bowl of gnocchi, garlic bread and lashing of red wine (while kidding myself that garlic and red wine are "good for the heart").

Double yikes as I have a date on Monday night (:T ) and was hoping to look tremendous.

    Boo!

Back ON the wagon tomorrow, methinks.
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

Thank you everyone for your slaps on the back for giving up the nicotine:D

Last Sunday I watched (from the comfort of the sofa after a rather nice fry up) the thousands 'do' the marathon, and the feelings of guilt from the unemployed exercise monster that lives within me started nudging me.
I honestly have to admit I am full of awe for anyone that can do this. And Lewby you have my complete admiration, I don't 'run' either, I wish I had your determination. Will you keep up us up to date with you training diary ?

  • Hey guys,
well done everyone, I just realised that every time we say "I've been naughty, done this that and the other" at least it means we are acknowledging things, compared to doing them and trying very hard not to think about...do you see what I mean? If it is all public and open at least we can work with that!
Sophiesmum, I don't think anyone here is formally against Atkins or condems it, it was just a general discussion about pro's and con's. No hard feelings, and each to their own and all of us together ;-)
Lewby PHOAAAARR that is one impressive plan, like Jo I must say please keep us up to date!
I have just invested in the "Winning by losing" book by Jillian Michaels (biggest loser woman) as the Australian series has just finished and I got really inspired by it. The book is really fantastic, no quick fix and no "do nothing and get slim in your sleep", it's all realistic, allows for real people and can be adapted to each individual. I will go forward with that. Things she suggests: We need to sort out our mental issues: Why are we in this situation? Finding the triggers that cause us to eat... She says for a period of a week or so, every time you go to eat something think about why. If you are hungry, your tummy is growling, you feel weak then of course eat. BUT...if you are depressed, or stressed, or bored, or (insert emotion here) then ask yourself what else you can do instead of eating. Cup of tea? Read a book? Go for a walk?
I think that is already a big factor in my daily life....
And again sorry about the essay everyone ;-)
