Thanks for the encouragement folks. It is a pretty major life event and I know it's not going to be easy. I will keep a training thread but not sure if I will be allowed to have it on this board. I start one and see.
I'll call it Great North Run - Had to buy Trainers!! Then it's got a DFW element to it.... and it's true, I do have to buy some decent trainers!

Hello
wow, I am very impressed Lewby, you've really got me wondering now if I could be fit enough by then to do it. I suspect my answer is in the negative but you should be so proud setting yourself such a target!

Lewby - Wow, well done! taking that extra step and going for it! Congratulations and good luck with the training! x x
Sophiesmum - thank you for your post too, I also have PCOS and am at the moment trying to lose weight before trying for children in a couple of months. When I was 17 (some years ago now!) I was put on the pill to balance out my hormone levels, so the symptoms have been kept at bay but I'm terrified they will return when I come off it. I haven't got that much to lose but I would like to improve my fitness levels. I've been following a pcos diet, ie no sugar, eating nuts and seeds etc, but I found your post really inspiring and I think I'll have a look for a book on ANA as it's worked so well for you. My sister had PCOS and found it very difficult to maintain a pregnancy, (3 miscarriages) now she has a baby boy after having hormone injections, but she also did a very strict diet which probably helped.
thanks x xFull time working mum to 2 boys

Well done Lewby! You are very brave!
MinnieSpender you crack me up. And for what it's worth I am sure you WILL look tremendous....you know I think we need to acknowledge we don't HAVE to look like stick insects to be attractive. Sure we all want to lose a bit of weight and if we are overweight it is healthy to do so, but come on, slimness does not equate attractiveness full stop, does it...?
For what it's worth I went to a Cypriot restaurant last night (Meze: really REALLY bad if you don't want to eat a lot of food...bad idea...really bad idea) and they had a belly dancer come out in full regalia.
God she was gorgeous....and NOT skinny at ALL. It gave me a refreshed perspective - and some hope!!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

LookingAhead - thanks for the encouragement! You're right, of course. I posted elsewhere on here for people to say what they actually liked about themselves because I do think we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves!
Btw - I'm sending you a PM on this topic because there are some things I don't want to make generally known just yet! Ooh, cryptic, eh? What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

Thank you looking ahead, that's a very welcome dose of perspective!! It can just be about feeling confident in yourself and knowing how to show off what you've got, rather than always wishing there was less of it :rotfl: I've recently got the 'what not to wear' book (charity shop - very dfw!) which has been helpful for this - i'm not a fan of their approach on the telly really but the book is good - a guide to what to wear (and not) for different body shapes/sizes
I have a question for everyone, apologies if its been discussed before, not sure that I've read every post carefully. Anyway, its about writing down everything you eat, like a spending diary but for food, does anyone do this? I don't necessarily mean counting calories (don't like that approach really) but just as a record. Might help me to see where I'm going wrong or just show me how much I eat! I know when I started a spending diary it made me think twice about spending money and helped because I had to face up to what I was spending - hoping for the same effect with eating!!
Does anyone already do this kind of thing and do they feel it helps them? Any tips gratefully recieved!!

Hi Kath
As regards to writing stuff down, I used to do this as it really concentrates the mind in a very similar way to writing down your spends. You quickly see where you're going wrong.
Then I found https://www.fitday.com and use that now instead.
It's an internet based program - you log on (free of course!) and put your food intake in on a daily basis. As well as seeing what you're eating, it calculates your calorie intake and nutritional intake and has lots of help add-ons including weight graphs and exercise monitoring.
Give it a go - it's American, so not always on the button for Brits, but you do have the option to add foods as well (a quick google will give you the lowdown on the nutritional values of foods if you get stuck). What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

Thank you for that MinnieSpender - I'll check it out now!
I wouldn't mind knowing the calories I consume etc and being able to keep a record of it. I've just heard that eating strictly to a calorie count leads some people to miss some meals or healthy stuff to be 'allowed' something not so good, like cake! Don't think I'd fall into this trap but still...
