Greetings Misscal and welcome to the "Cuddle" (as we call ourselves) and to the MSE boards....they're very addictive and soon you'll be saving everywhere with the best of them!
I used to eat out a lot as well in my City days - breakfast at Starbucks, lunch at Pret etc, etc....it costs a flippin' fortune!!! A lot of the food is also loaded with calories, sugar and fat so I reckon you'll make a massive start by cutting out the take-outs and eating out. Try tracking what you spend for a few weeks, then add it up to give you a total for the year and that alone will horrify you into stopping it.
Enjoy that free walk and come back to chat to us!0 -
Hiya,
I'd like to play too!
used to live on takeaways & did 0 exercise, changed my tune in april, now i try to eat much better & gym about 6.5hrs a week.
I live in london (west) and find that the gym works a lot better for me than walking & stuff (walk to/ from work, 15 mins each way). Also a pet is ruled out, but I would love to have & walk a dog!
my goal is 90kg by chrimbo with a goal of around 85kg, according to my height (about 5' 10") i should be just under 80kg but I'm fairly muscular and think that'd be to low.. so will work on it & see how it goes :money:Debts (Original 17/08/06):

Welcome Mark! I am sure that dropping the takeaways to occasional treat only and exercising as you are will see good results!
Do you know anyone who has a dog? You could walk it as a favour? That little extra bit of exercise could really help too.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Godness how depressing is this???!!! I went to the doctors this morning and as well as being ill - god prescriptions are expensive ... who can AFFORD to be ill??? I am officially obese!!! I need to lose 4 stone ... do they think i would look better as a skeleton??? Boo bloody hoo... can I get a gastric band fitted for free ...i wouldn't mind but its all bloody hormonal and they can control that with pills which again cost a bloody fortune ... Depressed, not even hungry and fed up. If i ate fried chicken 5 times a week and binge drank i wouldn't mind being overweight - as it is i eat 3 sensible meals a bloody day and dont drink ....at wits end...Terriblesaver - hoping to improve!!! Hi Terriblesaver
Just sneaked in whilst at work (don't tell!!!) and skimmed through a few pages ending in your post. Do you have PCOS? Maybe you could try making your meals smaller, but maybe 4-6 times per day? It maybe an idea to reduce the amount of carbs you eat during the day and increase your veg intake.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Poorbabe are you a doctor my darling????
Spot on diagnosis - its a scurge..... I have tried everything and nothing works - Xenical, Metformin, Dianette - 11 years and its still infuriating as its just a big circle. Never mind its just a down day today

Hi Terriblesaver!
If you are obese you can EASILY lose a stone in a month if you REALLY GENUINELY cut down significantly on salt/sodium. This is the weight loss typically achieved by obese people making a serious reduction in their salt intake. - BUT you have to give up the calorie restriction and going hungry. - Remember, 'dieting makes you fat'! - Read my article about Obesity and the Salt Connection. http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/obesity_and_the_salt_connection.html It was published in December 2004. Four months later the April 2005 issue of the magazine contained a letter from Joyce Barnard, who has given permission for her name to be used here. She wrote that by following the advice I had given her a few years earlier - i.e. that to lower her high blood pressure and lose weight she simply needed to eat less sodium - she had lost 5 stones in weight (70 pounds) in a year! - All she did was stop sprinkling salt onto her meals and use LoSalt instead of ordinary salt when cooking. (The website does not sell anything and has no banners or sponsors or adverts - just helpful info.) - It costs nothing! It DOES work!Lose weight by eating less salt! - Go on! - Try it! - It works!0 -
And, of course, no prescription drugs are needed so you save money that way too...(o:Lose weight by eating less salt! - Go on! - Try it! - It works!0

I'm not a doctor sweetie, just another PCOSer (diagnosed in 1996), albeit a slim one who should be watching her carb addiction like a hawk especially as I slide towards my mid-40s. I've always exercised but having slackened on the exercise front, even with a few runs coming up over the next 2 months, my carb craving needs to be curbed badly.
I've now joined a running club so I'm expecting that to help me greatly plus I'm going on hols in December and vanity will get me through the remainder of October til I get on that plane *lol* I don't expect you to take up jogging right now but scour the PCOS sites for any help on changing your eating habit whilst you develop some kind of exercise plan. The few conferences I've attended always emphasises our need for regular daily exercise as one way to help our weight. I'm a shrimp at 4'11 and currently weigh 9 stone which is the heaviest I want to be, lifting weights or not!
My general food plan is less salt/sugar, daily exercise of whatever, less/no carbs after 6pm to be replaced with vegetables (yuk!). I'm not sure if PCOSers can moneysave with the meds/supplements many of us take but I regard my health as worth the expense AND I have regular monthly facials (along with the facial wax!).
Hang in there TS and celebrate each gain you accomplish.
PS: You going to the conference in October? Can't remember where it is off hand. I'm thinking about itThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Thanks for the warm welcom freebird and lookingahead. I did enjoy my walk and managed to only buy the loaf of bread I went out for (miracle). I also felt extremely virtuous last night. I went to the piccies with Hubby and I drove (Miracle No.2) so saved on taxi fare, and calories from alcohol pre and post piccies. Whole night out only cost £15 for both of us and I had a really good time and no naughty cinema treats.
Well into day 5 and feel really good. I've been tryin to praise myself for what I have got right rather than what I haven't done (which is often a failing of mine). I've also made soup for the weekend and have got ingredients to make curry tonight instead of buying my usual indian takeaway with all the trimmings.
Hope everyone else has had a good week. Thanks for all your encouragement! Speak soon.:A
