The GI Diet is for short-term weight loss only - it's very dangerous

Weight Watchers is the best, because you are still getting all of the major food groups, if you HAVE to eat chocolate then you can and it's not a temporary diet - it's a way of thinking for life

Thanks Gemmzie. I only skim read the book but I didn't think it cut out any food groups? (well apart from alcohol - which did make me wince! - but you can have it back on the maintenance plan). I'd better go back and read it properly! But I thought it was one of the ones that was actually healthy - the website quotes a load of doctors and cardiologists - http://www.gidiet.com/en-gb/professionals.php

Are you thinking of the Atkins Diet? The one where you eat loads of meat? I'd hate that one!

Have a load of WW cookery books though - use them a lot (though tend to cook recipes for 4 and eat them between 2 of us :o ) - can you do it without joining a group?

If you have even the slightest imbalance in your blood sugar levels (which most people do naturally), then it can cause problems. GI is a sensible balanced eating plan which is just pushed that little bit too far to make it a sellable diet product.
It's silly really because having low/high GI mixes through the day is a good idea. But cutting out all potato, white anything etc - just causes sugar cravings and headaches.

    Atkins is much much worse!

Yes, definitely, just work out what your points per day would be and stick to that :)

Thanks - that's really helpful. I do tend to get low blood sugar so wouldn't be good to make that worse! Will see if I can find the points book - we definitely had one once - then work with the recipes. Brilliant! :T

Ok - starting properly today. Have weighed in and actually need to lose 3 stone! But most importantly I want to feel fitter.
Tonight I am going to get the bike out. We have a park near us with a lake - so tonight's goal: cycle there and round the lake once!

  • Help!!! Overweight - need to cancel gym membership - haven't been for 3 months (!) constantly tired - about 4 stone overweight or 2 ft under height lol. Is WW expensive? I remember when I went before , many moons ago that it worked but cost an arm and a leg. No one else I know is over weight so I have no one to motivate me.... Gosh its all soooo depressing.

The meetings are £4.95 a week I think.

If you are constantly tired, you might be better off cancelling the gym membership and seeing a nutritionalist. Helped me hugely :)

And all the support you need is right here :)

Hey there....my mate and I stopped going to WW and now save the weekly fee and pay it into a "new wardrobe" fund when we weigh ourselves in. Do a google search as you'll probably find a free joining voucher somewhere.

A lack of exercise also has a lot to do with being tired - try going for a little walk every day to get you moving as well as seeing a nutritionist.

    :D
