oooh minnie....actually...can you help me with some good lower back stretches? My tailbone area still aches and I don't know why. Some days I can just about touch my toes (used to be able to do this no probs until last weekend) and other days I can't stretch past knees!
My back seems to respond to stretching though and all I am doing is kneeling down then stretching out in front (chest nearly on ground) also arching back cat style.
Is there anything else you can recommend? Would appreciate it hon. Ta. xx

A very interesting - yet deperessing article.
Anyway, I can recommend a fantastic money saving idea.....do as I did in 1988 and realise that glossy magazines are a complete waste of money, they represent unrealistic bodies & lifestyles for most women in this country (definitely the world) and if we care about future generations of women (your daughter...your niece...your little sister) these publications should not be bought. Save some resources along the way too, hurrah.
Think about it. Seriously. What bits of information do they really give you for your happy & healthy future life? What advice do they give you that you couldn't get free from the internet or from your friends and relatives?
Sorry - rant over. They make my blood boil, does it show?Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Let me see...Lie on your back and then pull your knees into your chest and hug them there. Rock gently from side to side to "massage" your lower back. This is a good one to do after abs work too.
Stand up with your legs apart. Slightly bend the knees and slump forward. Don't worry about getting your hands on the floor - just go as far as is comfortable. Then very gradually straighten yourself up - vertebra by vertebra until you're standing and then straighten your legs. Keep it slow.
The cobra pose from yoga can be quite a "strong" pose, but again, you can take it slowly. Lie face down on the floor, hands under your shoulders and raise your head. You're aiming for this:
but don't push it and don't strain! It will eventually create more suppleness for your back and is a preparation pose for backbend.
More advice on the cobra here: http://www.abc-of-yoga.com/yogapractice/thecobra.asp
I'd follow up the cobra with the first exercise posted here to stretch your back back.
A nice hot bath will also work wonders! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

I couldn't agree more, LA.
I do like glossies from time to time (I cut out fashion pics and put them in my "inspiration file" then go and make up the designs from Primark/charity shops/what I've already got - sewing machine is on my wishlist!) but I object to the way they peddle this "thin is in" nonsense. The Observer is a bit of a weekly treat, and they have the Woman magazine in there once a week*. It's a great read - this week they've had articles about thinness, Fiona Bruce, and a great piece on Primark.
*should read once a month:eek: What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

Sorry - the Woman magazine is once a month, not weekly as in my previous post. Apologies. What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160

Hi everyone, hope your weight loss/exercise is going well. I haven't weighed myself for over a month, but various family members have said I'm losing weight, so I'm taking that as a good sign! I will weigh myself in a couple of weeks or so, but I think I was getting a little obsessed with the scales, so I'm just trying to concentrate on eating well for now. Have slacked off with the exercise somewhat as was just too hot a couple of weeks ago and too rainy last week!
So no more excuses, I'm going to get back into exercise by walking back from work at least three times this week and go for a short bike ride on my day off on Thursday. Will report back later in the week on how I'm getting on...
Congratulations freebird on becoming debtfree! :T
Also I totally agree with you Looking Ahead, about the glossy magazines. I haven't bought any for over a year as they just used to make me feel miserable after seeing the 100th advert showing a skinny woman! Instead, I have a library book to read during my work break if I'm not meeting up with my friend! How DFW is that? :A0
