Looking Ahead started a fantastic thread on this subject a while back:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=176840

If any of you would care to join us, please do. We're a very supportive bunch and while a lot of the thread is very funny, there are loads of great tips on there too.

And a stack of us have managed to lose weight over there too!

And you don't have to be put off by the shedloads of pages either its mostly waffle just go to the last page and jump right in and introduce yourself :D

We're a friendly bunch, if a bit insane at times, and if we have enough newbies to the thread Minnie's great exercise routines (think Mr Motivator but no doubt with better fashion sense ;) ) might even make a reappearance?!?! :rotfl:

    Hi everyone,
Thought I'd contribute to this thread as I may beable to help some people. My story so far:
    I used to weight 18st 9lbs and I'm 6ft tall
My lowest ever weight was 12st but i have levelled out now at 13.7 due to gaining a fiance= becoming happier and eating lots of meals out.
The tips that I wanted to share with eveyone that have worked for me (not all long term but for a few months at least while dieting!)
    1) Buy some brightly coloured ribbon from a craft shop and tie it around the wrist that you mainly eat with- that way everytime you go to reach for a snak or chocolate you see the ribbon and remember what its all for! Also people ask what its for and you can remind them and yourself that your healthy eating only
2)Stick a fat picture on the fridge! This always stops me!
    3) Chew very slowly and put your knife and fork down between eating
    4) Drink a pint of water before each main meal, you feel full instantly and don't serve yourself so much
5)Buy a cheap pedometer and challenge yourself to walk at least 10 more steps each day
6)Make a chart for your bedroom wall and each night colour the day red or green - green if youve done well and eaten healthily and red if youve not done as wel as you would have wanted. This one really worked for me becasue i really wanted to see green on the wall and have at least 5 green days a week (I guess like no spend days!)
Anyway I hope I can help someone out there - I'm back on healthy ating myself hoping to get down to 12st 10lbs before xmas!
    Good luck all
    Just trying to be me.....

Hey Minnie Motivator, you still have one "1" space left - can a wannabe skinny join in? Haaahaaa.

I thought I'd add my tuppence worth to the new surge of posts started by biglad......

I know full well that my weight surge is down to a total lack of exercise (after leaving my job 2 years ago and now working from home) and my shocking drinking habits. Its also far too easy to pick and even if you think you're being dead healthy, you'd be surprised. When I started WW 2/3 months ago I tracked all the food and drink I had for a month......the results were shocking as all my nibbling was basically doubling what I thought I was eating. I've now cut that out and if I get the urge (oooerr), I reach for a carrot or a few almonds, or I guzzle half a pint of water which soon fills me up. If you can't understand why you're not losing any weight, try tracking for a week....you might be surprised by the results!

In terms of what's healthy and what's not, I cut out as much processed food as possible years ago and now rarly eat white pasta etc....give me fresh food any day. A prime example of what processed does for you is my OH....used to burp and fart like you would not believe and loved huge platefuls of "stuff" drowned in sauces and never touched veg. Until he moved in with me. I made him big platefuls of veg with chicken done in spices or baked salmon with a little lemon juice.....he protested loads but soon got used to it and now complains hugely if he doesn't get lots of veg. He's also lost 4 stone and the...erm...noises...have stopped....unless he's had a night on the beer, but then we're all allowed a relapse now and then!

Right....time for a long walk round the shops....no spending mind, just a little wander!

    :D

Man. Does that mean I should stop drinking 'flavoured mineral water' ? That's all I drink! That and milk. Hate hot drinks, fizzy drinks, pure fruit juice - and it always tastes weird mixed with water! Water on its own is pretty disgusting. I must drink at least 2L 'sugar free' mineral water a day. Is that bad?

PeachPickle can you check the ingredients on the 'flavoured mineral water' and post them on here? If they contain artificial sweetners then yes they are probably very very bad for you. I have just given up Diet Coke for that reason! You say water is pretty disgusting - I you sure this is not purely psychological. Surely it would save you calories, nasty chemicals and loads of money to drink water. You need to persevere with water. Think of all those plastic bottles as well that go straight into the landfill.....

    OK kiddies...

I want to post here so that I feel accountable not only to myself but also to the beady eyes of the DF&FFWs!! Sorry if I sound a bit hardcore but I am so determined at the moment that I want to achieve what I can whilst I am feeling 'on top of things'! I also am a goal-orientated person so need the structure in order to achieve.

    TARGET WEIGHT:
    9st (am presently 9st 10lb)

GOALS FOR WEEK BEGINNING 24TH JULY:
No Diet Coca-cola (gave up 3rd July - a small miracle!)
No alcohol (eek!) (Cracked on Thursday OH bought a bottle of wine. Had two glasses. No more for the rest of the week!)
Drink nothing but water (popping out for a fizzy drink has cost me a fortune - I believe it is a habit that I need to break)

    EXERCISE:
    Monday - swim (done)
    Tuesday - swim (done)
    Thursday - swim (done)
    Saturday - swim (done)
Sunday - run (not done - moved to Monday)

    RECIPES:
I am basically following the Weightwatchers 'points' diet (although am not paying to have a weigh in!) and will be cooking a selection of the following recipes this week:

Hearty, tomato & borlotti bean soup (3 points per serving) (Cooked on Monday - am having for lunch today. Have frozen two portions :))

Quorn, chickpeas & lemon casserole (5 points per serving) (Cooked on Monday. Delicious!)

Chickpea salad (2 and a half points per serving) (Made on Thursday. Slurp!)

Roasted peanut and sweet potato curry (5 points per serving)

Shepherds bean pie (5 points per serving)

Thai sweet potato soup (5 points per serving) (Cooked on Monday. Super delicious! Have also frozen two portions :))

Vegetable tofu lasagne (3 points per serving)

Moroccan couscous salad (4 points per serving) (Made on Tuesday. Lovely in hot weather.)

Spiced egg & vegetable fritatta (3 points per serving) (Made on Thursday. Yum!)

Aubergine and tofu stir-fry (2 and a half points per serving) (Made on Friday. Was ok but good for protein.)

Grilled halloumi and tomato platter (4 and a half points per serving) (Made on Friday. My OH loved this!)

If anyone wants any of these recipes I can supply although it might take a while to type them up!

Wish me luck - and good luck to all in your quest!

    Annie

I like the thought of these ones! YUM!

Hearty, tomato & borlotti bean soup
Roasted peanut and sweet potato curry
    Shepherds bean pie
    Vegetable tofu lasagne

    Cheers!

Tip: Type them in notepad or word & copy & paste and that way you can email them as attachments too if you need to. Oh and you won't get "timed out" if it takes more than 10 mins to type the recipes

    Flavoured mineral water:

How about normal water and a squeeze of natural lemon or orange? Or use frozen juice ice cubes?

That's not a bad idea. The competitions start at a reasonably low level you know......
