beanie - you will need to find some sort of exercise that will work with you being disabled (sorry for stating the obvious). Maybe a work out video that you can copy the bits you can do - don't know your situation but say if you're in a wheel chair you could do the arm movements, or whatever - lift weights, you know not to get muscly just toned.

Sorry - I just had to to say White bread is not "VERY BAD" for a healthy diet, it does contain fibre and is part of a vital food group.

Sorry to disagree with this, but I would say that white bread is bad for a healthy diet. In fact, I would say that most refined "white" foods (i.e. white rice) are bad for a healthy diet. They contain starch - which is a bulking ingredient (cornflour anyone?) - but the nutrients are lacking. In fact I would say that by "crowding out" more nutritous food, they are worse than eating nothing.

At the end of the day weight loss is all about calories, what go in versuis what goes out.

That would be true if we were machines - but we are not. One of the greatest questions in weight loss is not "What am I eating?" but "Why am I eating?". Hunger - real, genuine hunger is very low down on that scale.

Hands up if you've eaten because:
    • You're bored
    • You're depressed
    • It's meal time and you always eat now
    • You're drunk and you have the "munchies"
    • Comfort

Food also has a psychological component.

The "sugar rush" is one part of that. This has recently been enshrined in the Glycemic Index - which is a sort of measure of how "rushed" your sugar is. If it goes in fast, it leaves fast and you get hungry again fast.

Artificial sweeters. There is some evidence, that when you taste sweetness, your body dumps insulin into the blood, expecting sugar. Of course this lowers your blood sugar level. If the sweetness came from an artificial sweetner, then that sugar is never going to come. At this point, your body notices the low blood sugar level - and gives you a sugar craving! You can try the artificial sweetner again, but the same will happen again. This is a cycle that can only be ended with real sugar. That's real sugar that you would not have consumed if it hadn't have been for the artificial sweetner.

"Flavour enhancers" such as MSG (hydrolyzed vegetable protein) have been blamed for suppressing the saiety signal that tells you to stop eating.

Anything that resticts certain food groups is not healthy in my view.

So why do eskimos live for so long and so healthily on the five food groups of small fish, small seals, cariboo, big fish and big seals?

urgh white bread....within 10 minutes of eating white bread I always feel sick.

This may be the starch converting to sugar and raising your blood sugar level.
And the fibre content......? Has opposite effect on me  :rotfl:

There isn't a great deal of fibre in white bread, but if it is your main source of fibre - drink more.

Otherwise it'll dry out into a obstructive fibrous plug. Which is quite inconvenient, when you consider where it is.

You'll not get the drain rods up there...:rotfl:

In think it's all about energy going in and out.

It's similar to the money secret ie never spend more than you earn. :T

But in dietary terms, never consume more than you expend. ;)

Gawd am I making sense? I've had a few wines tonight...

Man. Does that mean I should stop drinking 'flavoured mineral water' ? That's all I drink! That and milk. Hate hot drinks, fizzy drinks, pure fruit juice - and it always tastes weird mixed with water! Water on its own is pretty disgusting. I must drink at least 2L 'sugar free' mineral water a day. Is that bad?
