mountainlioness - it's a shame that his mum was so horrified. It's not something I myself would do (have some medical issues, so they wouldn't let me anyway), but each to his own. My MIL gave birth to DH at her home (but gave birth to SIL in hospital), so wouldn't particularly be shocked. Maybe she'll come around.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0

Triggles - she's just one of those people who can't see beyond what she would do and what she would do is based on ignorance, not any kind of informed opinion or genuine medical issues! I know it;s not for everyone, we're not even sure it's for us, but at least we're prepared to acknowledge that other people might want something different - this is lost on her, but then she has v little life experience and contact with the world outside the immediate family. She probably wonders who this strange woman is who's led her son astray into new-fangled things like foreign food and little girls being allowed to wear blue!!MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Morning ladies!
It's been a good one so far in spite of the torrential rain and the fact that my feet didn't deflate overnight despite soaking them in cold water.
I just paid off one of my credit cards. In full. I already destroyed it, so am utterly delighted with myself. The other one still has a fair amount on it and I pay £100/month on my mother's because of all the help she gave me while I was a student, but it's a start and it is heading in the right direction. By the end of the year I will hopefully be only paying off my student loan.
Today's plan is to go to Ikea and also to once again tidy the area around my desk. I don't know how it gets so messy so quickly. I also need to send an email but hopefully that can wait a while.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

SugarSpun - well done on getting a credit card paid off! Always nice to see that, isn't it? We're getting close on one of ours and I'm really pleased about it.
mountainlioness - if it makes you feel better, I remember my mum making a comment (when I had my first baby years ago) that breast feeding was common and that only the lower classes did it. She was rather disapproving. Not sure exactly what class she placed us in, but it was a strange comment.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -

ML - MIL and FIL were horrified when I initially thought about home birth 'It's not natural' - my reply was actually it's more natural
Now with my GD I don't think I will risk a home birth - I can't wait for clinic appt Weds cos I'm worried about my sugars, they were still a bit high yesterday.
Skinty - I've got a blackout blind, I think over the winter you could do without but I don't want to be woken up at 4am cos baby thinks it's morning!
God, I need to tell work about my new job today :eek:A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
Triggles - funny! I guess brown bread was thought common too (Uptown Girl, she's been living in her white bread world la la la la)but now it's the other way round. Funny how times change. We're not that worried about MIL but I know it gets to DH that she's so hot and cold about the baby thing, one min enthusiastic the next uninterested or critical.
Glam - sorry to hear your sugar's high - hope clinic visit goes well.
BTW, don't know if possible but have you considered using molasses as a sweetener/flavour? I used to use it in yogurt when I was trying to do a lower GI diet. I think there are some nutrients in there too, minerals??MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Hi ML
I'm actually not to bothered about eating sweet things anymore.
The other day I had toast (brown bread) with marmite for brekkie, porrridge for lunch and then Chicken Enchiladas for tea - the morning and lunch sugars were high but the one after tea was really low
Yeserday I had a banana and croissant for brekkie, scrambled egg on toast for lunch and then chicken and pasta bake(wholemeal pasta) - this time was high throughout the day.
I can't stop eating pasta, rice, potatoes and bread (There's not much left after them!) so am actually measuring my portions and making sure I have a small portion with a low GI food such as egg or meat to counter but it doesn't appear to work!
What I want to know is how many grams of sugar per 'whatever' a day I sould be having!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
