Edit - Karen - I keep a list of people to buy for, and then what I've bought for them. That way I don't overbuy.
SS I tend to write a list too, but forget to take it with me to the shops so spot something and only realise when I get home that I have already got their presents! Will have to be carefulTegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)
Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early)0 -
Sending labour starting kicks to those suffering in the heat! Glam - hope the GD doesn't cause any big problems and you get used to dealing with it speedily.
I'm at home today - been awake on and off with a headache I don't think I can take anything for as on aspirin for bp as it is since 3am so called in sick, seems a bit pathetic pulling the pregnancy card to me but there is no way I could have coped with a 3 hour commute and 8 hours in the office, I've not even managed to get up yet! My mother will have a fit if I told her - although in some ways wish was staying with her as she has a pool! Which reminds me, found out about a local ante natal swimming class which I was planning on going to later.
FIL (I say IL, me and DP aren't married yet but it's just easier to say FIL!) was diagnosed with bowel cancer on Tuesday which is so sad but wasnt unexpected as he's been in and out of hospital since I've been pregnant. Really puts my headache winge into perspective. He is at the cancer hospital as we speak getting his treatment plan - will give them a buzz later to see how it went. My closest (geographically / emotionally, all that) uncle is currently undergoing chemo for inoperable lung cancer at the mo too - my aunt did say he should be around to see little one which was really frightening as that's about all they've said about how bad it is. I hope beyond all hope that they are BOTH still here to see little one at least start to grow up and remember them.
Really should get up and get on with my day. Cooling hugs to all.0 -
Pinkpig - any chance you could make a reasonable compromise re the 14yo? It's your DSD right? I'd be willing to bet that her mum wouldn't want her at her Dad's all night with no adult there, so just tell your DH that as a reasonable compromise, you want to call DSD's mum and ask her what SHE would like. She'll probably say she'd rather have DSD back with her if you go into labour. Win-win situation if it works - as DSD won't be left alone at night and you look completely reasonable to his ex (which never hurts, right?) and watching out for DSD's welfare.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0

Got an appointment at the hospital today to have bloods taken for the downs screening, not sure what it's called.
Will i just have bloods taken or will i see a mw too?
It's not in the usual place i'd see a mw, but a lot of people talk about having a 16wk mw appt so confused! I've done a urine sample just in case they want one, but haven't a clue!xmaslolly76 wrote: »I dont think the blood test is for actual downs testing it tests for something else which then gives them a percentage of how likely you are to have a downs child you should then be given the choice as to weather you want the other types of test which actually do test directly for downes syndrome. Again i cant remember the name of the test though sorry
Beenie's probably gone by now, but I thought I'd reply anyway.
The tests are called "triple tests" or "quadruple tests", the name relates to the number of hormones in the blood that they are testing (here in Manc it's a quadruple test). The level & combination of hormones, combined with your age, will give them a figure for the statistical chance of the baby having Downs syndrome - but remember, it's only a statistical indication, not a diagnosis. If your results come back as high chance, you should be contacted by a doctor or midwife to discuss the results and make a decision as to whether you want invasive testing (ie amniocentesis).
Not sure whether you'll be seen by a midwife or not - my blood test was taken by my Community Midwife; however, whenever I've been to the hospital for scans, there's always been a Midwife on duty for me to talk to if I want, as there is a huge Antenatal clinic at the hospital. And I always take a urine sample, even if I don't know if one is needed, coz I can't pee on demand!:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

This was in my boots email yesterday:
Did you know that bringing up a baby costs on average £8,184 in the first year alone! For smart savings see our great offers below.
Some people must be massively overspending me thinks.
Well that would make me want to delete the email so i didn't go and spend any more!!!!!0 -

If you qualify for SMP then you should still get it if you leave your job or are made redunant - I read that on directgov website.
thanks Glam... sent a HR rep an email to ask... will wait and see... do you think they would try and add the equvilant to my redundancy package?
argh! benefits etc are soo confusing..! cant go and ask at CAB until i know what my package will be cos i know they'll want to know... hate not being able to plan!!!:male:Alfie Sidney born 29th August 2009:male:0 -

My (almost)FIL also has bowel cancer (I think about 7 months now) and has undergone one lot of chemo and is in next week for his op. Im hoping the odds are good as it is a cancer that has a better survival rate it would certainly be a tragedy if he were not around for the new LO. Unfortunately my dad passed away from lung cancer before I even had my first child. My grandmother lasted nearly six years in relative good health with hers though.
Fingers crossed for all three Always - sending lots of get well vibes x0 -

They shouldn't do - your SMP is paid by the Government but through your employer.
I would just get MA because I have actually started working for a new employer, but if I had left work or been made redunant then I should still get SMP. It sucks really.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
it does... everything is made so much harder...
but like you said, you're much better off with the benefits in your new job...:male:Alfie Sidney born 29th August 2009:male:0
